Team Liquid, the global professional esports organization, has launched MyBlue, a native fan engagement platform built on the Sui blockchain and smart contact platform.
The launch of MyBlue is the result of a collaboration between Team Liquid and Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. The two parties announced their partnership in February 2024.
Together, Mysten Labs and Team Liquid are reinventing fan loyalty, enabling fans to unlock exclusive, one-of-a-kind digital rewards through efficient, low-cost transactions, personalization, and the unmatched speed of the Sui blockchain.
MyBlue builds on the legacy of Liquid+, the original Team Liquid fan platform launched in late 2020. With MyBlue, fans will get their own avatar of Blue, the Team Liquid mascot, which they can personalize with digital items earned by completing quests.
These collectibles will include memorabilia from important moments in their fan journey, as well as fun items allowing for fan personalization and self-expression. To earn these items, users complete quests by interacting with Team Liquid, such as watching live esports matches or player streams, responding to social media posts, chatting with the community on Discord, submitting memes or words of encouragement to the teams, taking quizzes, etc. .
Fans can also unlock additional rewards and values, such as signed jerseys, discounts at TL stores, in-game currency, exclusive merchandise and player access, and even unique experiences like trips to a e-sports event.
“We are excited to launch MyBlue to our fans, as well as the broader esports and gaming communities,” Steve Arhancet, co-CEO of Team Liquid, said in a statement. “Through our partnership with Mysten Labs, we’ve taken the best parts of Liquid+ and enhanced it by integrating Sui to make it the ultimate fan platform. Fans are showing up for us, and MyBlue will allow us to continue to be there for them by providing incredible experiences and unique rewards. I can’t wait for all our fans to have their own Blue.
With the launch of MyBlue, Team Liquid and Mysten Labs said they are redefining fan engagement by providing fans with meaningful interactions within the Sui ecosystem. The personalized Blue and all items earned will be stored on Sui, giving users true ownership of their individual fan journey. Additionally, users create their MyBlue account through Mysten Labs’ product, zkLogin, which allows simplified access to blockchain applications on Sui by logging in with familiar web credentials, such as Google and Twitch.
“Seeing Team Liquid push the boundaries of what’s possible in esports and on-chain experiences is extremely rewarding,” said Anthony Palma (an ace Call of Duty player), head of gaming partnerships at Mysten Labs, in a press release. “Through the Sui integration, Team Liquid fans will experience a seamless journey on MyBlue, acquiring collectibles to showcase their fandom without needing a deep understanding of the underlying blockchain technology on which the platform is built. Through our partnership with Team Liquid, Mysten Labs offers MyBlue users a unique experience to customize their avatars, complete quests and earn rewards.
Team Liquid will host a celebration event on Thursday, November 14 for the launch of MyBlue on twitch.tv/teamliquid, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. PT. Fans will be able to win prizes by digitally playing the world’s largest crane game and entering the “Ultimate TL Fandom Kit” contest which includes a shopping spree at the TL Store, a bundle of Alienware peripherals, a personalized blue plush and the Matching single item for their MyBlue.
Team Liquid, founded in 2000, has won more than $53 million across 7,000 tournaments to date. Sui is a first-of-its-kind Layer 1 blockchain and smart contracts platform built from the bottom up to make digital asset ownership fast, private, secure and accessible to everyone.
Its object-centric model, based on the Move programming language, enables parallel execution, sub-second finality, and rich on-chain assets. With horizontally scalable processing and storage, Sui supports a wide range of applications with unmatched speed at low cost.
Mysten Labs is a team of leading experts in distributed systems, programming languages and cryptography whose founders were senior executives and lead architects of pioneering blockchain projects. Mysten Labs’ mission is to create foundational infrastructure for Web3.
Asked about the resistance some Western players have shown towards blockchain, a Team Liquid spokesperson said in an email: “It is true that there is still hesitation about blockchain games and Web3 in general, especially in Western markets, and this is a challenge to overcome. Mysten Labs, the team behind Sui, is an ideal partner for us because they understand how important it is to meet players where they are. Not everyone fully understands the intricacies of blockchain, but if you can show how accessible, simple, and valuable it can be, then you can overcome that hesitation. Both Team Liquid and Sui believe in leading with experience and value first, not the details of technology.
The spokesperson added: “We think MyBlue is a perfect way to introduce our fans to blockchain in a more casual way, one that highlights the value it can bring to you as a Team Liquid fan while by not having to fear. This opens more doors to also introduce additional Sui features as well as games on Sui, as our fans will realize that blockchain is just another technology that can enhance their gaming and fan experience.
