On wave 1 and the Devcon ticket office

We hope you heard the news: In only two days, on July 17, 2019, the first wave of general tickets DEVCON will be posted at 6:00 pm PT / 9:00 am he / 3:00 pm CEST / 10:00 pm JST..

Today, we wanted to bring to everyone some details on the ticket process before the launch of Wednesday.

As always, we strive to guarantee that everyone has an equitable chance of attending the Devcon, which is why ticket purchases are limited to 2 per order and the pass cannot be reserved in large. In addition, we maintained our limit of 20 tickets per organization to help as many teams as possible to join us in Osaka.

The waves have been a little rushed in the past, but we have made changes to achieve a more fluid process. We work very early on the candidates of scholarships, manufacturers, speakers, sponsors and students so that only those who must buy general admission tickets can participate in public waves. In addition, there will be other waves of ticketing to come after the release of this week.

We are also very happy to have migrated this year to an open source ticket platform. We had to do some work to prepare it for the volume of tickets we sell and the particularities of Devcon, but we think that it really borne fruit. Not only is it more in line with our values to use this free platform with plugins developed by the community, but we were also able to add fun customizations, including a byob option (bring your own badge) and the possibility of opting for in the loot. The SWAG registration will guarantee both that you will get the articles that you are most passionate about and will allow us to reduce waste by avoiding overproduction.

Finally, we wanted to set off again and update certain relevant information from last year’s blog on how our decisions are taken in order to help create a welcoming and transparent process.

Ticket distribution and income distribution

First of all: more than two thirds of Devcon tickets are (still) either at a reduced price, or free, and intended, among other things, for manufacturers and students. The remaining tickets are sold by a series of “waves” almost at the same price per ticket as the three previous Devcon events (some € cheaper this year): this covers the cost of the conference and all the profits are donated to operations at the site level. Ethereum Foundation. This allows us in turn to use our financial resources to restore the community by funding the basic development and by granting subsidies to ecosystems. In addition, the scholarships and sponsorships of community leaders allow us to bring participants to Osaka who could otherwise be attended, and to offer the majority of tickets at reduced prices.

Waves

Waves are the means for anyone to buy a general admission ticket. We spark the timing of the waves in order to be able to apply the lessons we have learned from future waves (that is to say correcting bugs, solving availability problems).

Future!

Shortly after the end of the wave of this week, be listening to learn more about the next releases of tickets, as well as on the first news on the speakers and the calendar of the final window for lectures of conferences of conferences conferences .

Finally, we are always open to your ideas and comments to improve this process.

To listen to future Devcon updates, follow the Devcon Unicorn (@Efdevcon) or stay informed on the blog of the Ethereum Foundation here.

🦄
