Caitlyn Jenner is bringing his 1976 Olympic gold medal into the modern day… by offering up pieces of his most prized possession in a blockchain auction!!
TMZ Sports has learned… that the superstar decathlete—who finished first in the event at the Montreal Games nearly 50 years ago—and her Web3 development team have created an NFT of real-world assets in honor of her world-record performance.
Anyone wishing to participate in the action can purchase a piece of the medal with tokens from thursday …and owners will receive a “deed” linked to the NFT, which will be visible to everyone on the blockchain.
It’s worth noting that this does NOT mean Jenner is parting ways with her prized hardware: she’s simply bringing it into the digital space for a truly unique and historic opportunity.
The timing of the auction is no coincidence… Caitlyn tells us she’s sickened by how the Paris 2024 Games have unfolded so far – and she wants to remind everyone what international competition used to be about.
“I have never been more disgusted by the Olympics than I am this year, in 2024,” Jenner told TMZ Sports, pointing to the “blasphemous” opening ceremony depicting the Last Supper and the controversy surrounding the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.
“I hope that the timing of this launch – not only through the innovative and amazing technology we have built and by allowing people around the world to own a piece of history through this fractionalized NFT auction backed by a real gold medal – will bring back the thoughts and feelings, and evoke the feelings of the golden age of the Olympics when I was participating.”
“Paris 2024 was a disgrace for the Olympic Games.”
This is just another foray into the digital space for Jenner…who launched her own piece earlier this year.
