The Nasdaq calls for Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to treat certain cryptos such as traditional financial titles. In a letter dated April 25, the Nasdaq urged the dry to classify certain cryptocurrencies such as “actions“, Highlighting the need for clearer regulatory standards for digital assets.

Brief
- The Nasdaq asks the dry to regulate certain cryptos as financial titles, whatever their form (paper, digital, tokenized).
- Under Paul Atkins, the SEC adopts a more targeted approach, excluding certain assets as the same and stablecoins used for payments.
- Plus clear regulation of cryptography would encourage their integration into the traditional financial system.
Dry and Nasdaq: A new era for cryptography regulations?
The NASDAQ insists that cryptos with characteristics similar to actions should be regulated in the same way, whether or not they take the form of paper, digital or tokenized titles.
Whether in the form on the one hand paper, a digital stock or a token, the underlying nature of an instrument remains the same.
The exchange said, arguing for a coherent regulation between different forms of assets. The Nasdaq also proposed to classify certain cryptographic assets such as “Digital asset investment contracts“, Subject to lighter regulation while remaining under the supervision of the dry.
A puff of hope on the market
This clarification request comes in the midst of important changes in the position of the dry on cryptographic regulations. Under the management of Gary Gensler, the SEC had classified most of the cryptocurrencies, with the exception of Bitcoin, as titles, which led to a series of prosecution against cryptographic societies for alleged violations of the law of securities.
However, with the appointment of Paul Atkins as president, the SEC has adopted a closer position, excluding the same and stablecoins used only for payments. In addition, the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), a key clearinghouse for American titles, strives to integrate the blockchain into the regulated markets, with the ERC-3643 standard of Ethereum for the tokenized titles gaining in popularity.
The call of the NASDAQ to a clearer cryptography regulation thus reflects an increasing need for integration of digital assets in the traditional financial system. Such regulations could provide more certainty to investors and facilitate innovation while guaranteeing market safety.
