The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Pache Street during the 11th arrondissement, where a 34 -year -old woman walking with her 2 -year -old child was approached by three masked men who tried to force her to embark on a van disguised as a Chronopost delivery vehicle.
She was then identified as the daughter of the CEO of a leading crypto purchase platform.
The planning plan was thwarted when the child’s father intervened, physically facing the attackers. Although he was beaten, he managed to prevent kidnapping.
During the confrontation, one of the attackers dropped a handgun. The authorities have not yet confirmed whether the weapon is real or a reply. The men fled the scene in the same van.
Although several passers -by have witnessed the attack and heard the cries of the woman, none intervened, according to the report.
The van was then found abandoned in a neighboring street. The woman and her child were unscathed but visibly shaken.
The Paris prosecutor’s office awarded the Brigade for the repression of banditry (an anti-bandine brigade) to lead the investigation, especially if the reason was financially motivated because of the family’s ties with the cryptographic industry.
The incident adds to a disturbing tendency of the abductions linked to the crypto and attempts of extortion worldwide. Recent cases in France have shown a sharp increase in physical violence targeting digital asset holders.
So far this year, three cases of abduction linked to the crypto have been reported in France, including those involving the co-founder of the Grand Book David Balland and the father of a cryptography entrepreneur based in Paris.
The law enforcement organizations in several countries have warned that organized criminal groups are increasingly targeting individuals known to hold large crypto wallets.
In a recent case, three adolescents in Florida have been accused of having kidnapped a cryptographic investor in Las Vegas, forcing him to transfer $ 4 million to crypto and NFT, and leaving him in the Arizona desert. They face accusations of theft, kidnapping and extortion, with surveys pointing to a possible fourth accomplice.
