FIFA doubles on web3 ambitions by building its own blockchain powered by the avalanche

FIFA, the World Director of Football, plans to use the avalanche network to supply its own dedicated layer 1 blockchain.

The FIFA blockchain is an Avalanche L1, a customizable blockchain that uses avalanche technology (also known as subnet). The news comes while the Avalanche network has recently followed its main avalanche9000 upgrade, aimed at attracting new developers and encouraging them to create personalized L1s.

Thursday’s announcement is not the first fofa foray into the world of blockchain and crypto. In 2022, the football organization published a collection of non -budgetary tokens (NFT) on the Algorand blockchain before the Qatar World Cup. FIFA also teased this change in April, noting that it would transfer its collection to an EVM compatible blockchain while continuing to continue the web3 initiatives.

The enthusiasm of the NFT, which saw large institutions and societies jumping in the trend, has now disappeared mainly after the winter of brutal cryptography which attenuated the feeling of industry for several painful years. However, a large entity such as FIFA’s continuous accent on blockchain probably signals that the use of technology has not died out, and large companies are still trying to compete in industry.

“Avalanche is designed for companies and organizations seeking to build personalized and high performance blockchain solutions,” said John Nahas, Director of Ava Labs, in a press release shared with Coindesk. “FIFA’s decision to launch its L1 on Avalanche testifies to the ability of our technology to support applications worldwide with speed, flexibility and security.”

Although FIFA currently has a NFT World Cup collection and a digital collector market, it does not share what it planned to publish on its new blockchain.
