According to a joint declaration published on June 6, 2025, 31 Bitcoin Core developers took a clear position on the way the network should manage non -monetary uses. They stressed that their role is not to support or block data registrations and other non -financial activities.

This decision has aroused strong feelings through the community, with debates addressing the freedom, the costs and the very purpose of Bitcoin.

Position of developers on data policies

Based on reports, the basic team said they will not intervene to prevent “harmless” data from entering the blockchain. They pointed out that the main Bitcoin force is its resistance to censorship. Thus, all user -oriented software choices must have remained.

They did it clearly: it is up to the node operators to choose what they accept. This approach aims to keep the network free, even if it means that it carries additional data.

The voices of the community are divided

Following the declaration, the reactions flocked. Samson Mow, CEO of Jan3, called the tone of the Hollow developers and said that recent changes have “opened the valves” for spam. He argued that the deletion of technical obstacles encourages unwanted data.

Bitcoin Core developers have gradually changed the network to allow spam and now seem to be abolishing barriers for spammers. It is dishonest to say “that’s what it’s now, too bad.”

This declaration itself is also inappropriate. Feels like a core of developers.

On the other hand, Jameson Lopp de Casa praised the clear explanation of the relay rules. LOPP stressed that a unified voice of developers helps reduce the confusion past on politics.

Recent upgrading sparks are worried

On May 8, 2025, the basic developers deleted a long -standing limit for the size of the transaction data. This tweak allows anyone to include more important pieces of information in transactions. The criticisms fear that this will stimulate the bloating of the blockchain and the costs of push above.

Supporters say that predicting what minors will include – and pass this information – is the key for Bitcoin to work well. They say that this neutral relay policy helps minors and users, even if everyone does not buy it.

Future forks and layer solutions

For the future, some believe that a new fork could separate from a chain “in pure silver” which blocks data inscriptions. Others provide for layer 2 networks or lateral failures to take heavy work for art, messaging and other uses.

Be that as it may, most agree that node portfolios and software will soon offer options: one for clean and financial transactions only and another for those who do not care about additional data. This choice will allow users to vote with their parameters instead of counting on developers to make the call.
