The British show an increasing interest in putting the crypto in retirement plans, but many still do not completely grasp the risks. According to a new Aviva survey, 27% of British adults said they are open to the inclusion of digital currency in their retirement portfolios, while 23% said they could withdraw a party or their existing pensions to buy the crypto directly.
Gropping appetite despite the concerns
Based on the Censuswide reports, which interviewed 2,000 British adults between June 4 and 6, more than four in five people have pensions that total approximately 3.8 billions of sterling books (5.10 billions of dollars).
If even a small slice of that moved into the crypto, this could be significant for the markets. Among the respondents who said they were open to digital currency in pensions, just over 40% highlighted the higher chances of returns as a main draw.

The youngest savers lead a quarter
Young adults seem to be the most active. Reports show that almost 20% of people aged 25 to 34 admitted to having withdrawn pension money to buy crypto at some point.
Aviva’s research has also revealed that around one British adult in five – around 11.5 million people – has held the crypto at some point, and two thirds of this group still hold a form of digital assets.

This mixture of ownership and behavior asted at age helps to explain why digital currency is now one of the conversations on retirement planning.
The investigation participants reported clear concerns. Piracy and phishing have exceeded the list at 40%, while 37% cited a lack of consumer regulation and protection, and 30% have named volatility.
Almost a third admitted that they had not completely seized the compromises Involved in replacing pensions with bitcoin, and 27% said they were not at all risky. These figures suggest that the interest goes beyond understanding on the one hand of the public.

What regulators do and businesses do
Regulations will probably play an important role in the speed at which any change occurs. The reports note that HM income and customs will require crypto platforms to perceive complete names, personal addresses and tax identification numbers for each exchange and transfer from January 1, 2026. This decision aims to strengthen compliance and monitoring of taxes and could change the way some consumers see the confidentiality and convenience of Bitcoin.
American policy also moves the needle
The debate on pension funds and the crypto is not limited to the United Kingdom. US President Donald Trump has signed an executive decree allowing 401 (K) plans to include Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, opening up potential access to more than 9 billions of dollars in retirement assets.
