Physical attacks against Bitcoin holders increase 169% in six months

Bitcoin prices increase fueling physical threats

During the last half, something worrying happened in cryptographic space. Bitcoin and cryptocurrency’s owners and cryptocurrencies have jumped by 169%, according to data maintained by Jameson Lopp, the co-founder and director of security in Casa. It is not only a small increase – it is a dramatic wave that seems directly linked to the growing financial value of Bitcoin.

Between January and mid-September 2025, 48 physical incidents were recorded worldwide. This is an increase of 33% compared to all 2024. What is particularly worrying is that 35 of these incidents occurred after the publication of a previous analysis at the end of February. The model is clear: as digital assets and Bitcoin gain consumer recognition and higher market prices, physical threats for their holders increase both in number and in gravity.

France appears as a hotspot for cryptographic violence

France has recorded 14 separate incidents involving physical assaults against cryptographic investors in 2025 only. These cases range from invasions at home to kidnapping attempts, often involving coercion to transfer funds to attackers. This level of activity makes France one of the most affected countries during this period.

A recent attack that stood out occurred on September 6, 2025 in Cambridge, Ontario. Waterloo regional police reported that a young man had been removed from an intersection and forced into a dark colored van by five unidentified suspects. The attackers brandished a firearm and forced the victim to transfer a large sum to a cryptocurrency wallet. After respecting, the individual was released and treated later for non -fatal injuries.

The security expert weighs on risks evolution

Jameson Lopp, who follows these incidents thanks to an archive accessible to the public, shared some ideas on the landscape of changing threats. He explained that the increase in the value of assets has made Bitcoin a more attractive target for criminals, especially those who use physical strength to bypass technical safety measures.

LOPP has made an important point: although Bitcoin has become safer over time, this security does not protect users from physical coercion. He stressed that any investor with digital assets should remain up to date on the development of threats and build a personal security plan accordingly. The sharp increase in Bitcoin attacks reflects the increased value of the assets – criminals now consider Bitcoin not only as digital money, but as a precious target that can be taken by force.

Practical security measures for crypto holders

Given these developments, several steps can reduce the probability of becoming a target. One of the most important recommendations is to avoid making the property of cryptography known. Individuals should avoid being labeled as “the bitcoin” in their communities or online.

Online behavior remains one of the most common vectors leading to targeted attacks. Public figures, such as the creator of Amouranth content, were victims of violent invasions where the attackers demanded the cryptocurrency during invasions at home. This illustrates how the public visibility of Bitcoin holders can lead to real consequences.

For those who self-puttyly Bitcoin, strengthening the safety of the portfolio is crucial. This includes the protection of seed sentences, the use of pass sentences and the storage of backup data safely in separate places. Security experts recommend treating current assets as if they could become ten times more precious in the future – the increased value of assets justifies additional effort and vigilance.

Advanced protection options

Advanced users could consider multi -site portfolios (Multisig). These require several devices or approvals from separate locations to authorize transactions. This configuration adds another layer of difficulty for criminals who try to access the funds even with physical access to part of the configuration.

The geographic separation of signature devices makes immediate flight under the much more difficult constraint. Multisig solutions are particularly useful for individuals or companies with large quantities of digital assets.

Investors who are less concerned about direct control can consider exposure to Bitcoin via ETF or day care. These methods offer exposure to prices without the responsibilities of key management, although they come with their own risks, such as dependence on the security of the institution.

Ahead

While Bitcoin continues to enter the dominant current and prices reach new heights, physical attacks are likely to persist. The LOPP archives document a clear trend: criminals adjust tactics to exploit the weak points of user safety, in particular thanks to direct physical coercion.

The only effective defense seems to be the awareness, preparation and application of layering safety measures. Individuals must act as their own security agents when managing assets that can be transferred instantly and irreversibly. The 169% increase in incidents since February and the increase of 33% in annual sliding underlines how the value of assets directly influences criminal interest, which makes personal safety practices more important than ever.
