9.4.2024
If your practice involves international trade, litigation, and emerging technologies, Seoul, South Korea, is the perfect location for the New York State Bar International Section’s annual Global Conference. Each year, lawyers from around the world gather in a different city to address the key issues facing international lawyers. The theme of this year’s event is “Cross-Border Litigation and Transactions in a New Legal Paradigm.”
The conference will take place at Hanyang University from October 16-18. Over three days, you will have access to nearly three dozen informative events on a wide range of topics with exciting speakers who are leaders in their fields. Registration is open now.
The conference will open with a welcoming speech by Justice Roh Tae-Ak, a justice of the Supreme Court of Korea. Roh has served on the Supreme Court since 2020 and also heads the National Election Commission.
Judge Jennifer Choe-Groves of the United States Court of International Trade will be the keynote speaker in the first plenary session. She will provide an overview of new developments in the practice of law and advice on effective brief writing practices. She will be joined by Judge Sidney Stein of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
“Weathering the Storm of IP Litigation and Trade War” is a highlight of day two, which focuses on intellectual property rights. Day three includes a session with SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, “New Frontiers in Regulations of Crypto.” Peirce will be participating virtually.
“Our International Section has assembled a team of leading jurists on a variety of issues important to international lawyers,” said New York State Bar President Domenick Napoletano. “I look forward to traveling to Seoul to learn and network with such a distinguished group of industry leaders.”
The panels are organized into three tracks and cover a range of issues such as cross-border litigation and disputes, artificial intelligence, antitrust enforcement, financial fraud and intellectual property rights.
Here are some of the topics covered at the conference:
- Cross-border enforcement of foreign judgments.
- Changes and challenges in dispute resolution in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Trends in international mergers and acquisitions litigation.
- How the US presidential election may impact antitrust enforcement.
- Economic incentives for cross-border investments.
In addition to the information sessions and workshops, you will have time to explore Seoul, including visiting Gwangjang Market on Thursday evening and attending the Floating Island Convention Gala Reception and Dinner on Friday evening. Registration is open and hotel rooms are still available.
