Ethereum Network Activity Increases Despite Price Staying Below $3,000

Ethereum Prices Struggle But Network Fundamentals Strengthen

Ethereum continues to face resistance at the $3,000 price level, and multiple breakout attempts have failed under selling pressure. The cryptocurrency is trading around $2,946 at the time of writing, stuck below that psychological barrier that seems important to traders.

But here’s something interesting. Although the price action appears frustrating on the surface, the underlying network data tells a different story. I think we are seeing a divergence between short-term price movements and long-term fundamentals.

Active Addresses Show Wide Adoption of Ethereum

Ethereum leads all major cryptocurrencies in terms of the number of non-empty wallets, with over 167.9 million active addresses holding balances. That’s nearly three times the number of Bitcoin addresses, around 57.62 million. Other major assets are even further behind.

It’s not just a number. It reflects the diverse use cases of Ethereum in decentralized finance, NFT, and smart contract applications. People actually use the network and don’t just speculate on prices. The large user base suggests confidence in the platform’s usefulness, which could support demand over time.

Foreign exchange outflows signal accumulation

Another positive sign comes from foreign exchange balances. Since the start of the month, approximately 397,495 ETH has been withdrawn from centralized exchanges. This represents over $1.17 billion worth of Ethereum transferred into private wallets.

When people withdraw assets from exchanges, it often means they plan to hold them rather than sell them immediately. These capital outflows reduce immediate supply on the sellers’ side, which could help support prices when demand recovers. This suggests that some investors view current levels as accumulation opportunities.

Price outlook and key levels to watch

Ethereum has been steadily bouncing off the $2,762 support zone in recent weeks. Buyers appear to be defending this level despite broader market uncertainty. If this support holds and the network’s fundamentals continue to improve, another attempt at $3,000 seems likely.

A successful break above $3,000 could open the way to $3,131, with continued momentum potentially pushing towards $3,287. This would indicate an improvement in trust among participants, both retail and institutional.

But risks remain. If selling pressure intensifies and Ethereum falls below $2,762, the recovery narrative weakens. Loss of this support could push the price towards $2,681, marking a four-week low and calling the channel’s positive metrics into question.

The divergence between price action and network activity creates an interesting situation. Sometimes fundamentals lead prices, sometimes they lag. Currently, Ethereum network metrics suggest underlying strength that has not yet translated into price appreciation. Whether this will change soon depends on broader market conditions and whether favorable trends continue.
