The year started off on a high note, with inflows of $671 million last Friday alone, bringing the weekly total to $582 million despite midweek releases.
These figures highlight the continued appetite for exposure to cryptocurrencies, even amid price fluctuations, and indicate where capital is moving between different markets and assets.
Regional trends show US dominance in European recovery
The United States remained the largest source of capital inflows in 2025, accounting for the majority of the US$47.2 billion, although down 12% from 2024. Europe and Canada saw notable recoveries. Germany went from capital outflows of US$43 million in 2024 to inflows of US$2.5 billion in 2025, while Canada reversed its capital outflows of US$603 million to record US$1.1 billion in inflows. Switzerland also saw a slight increase, with inflows up 11.5% year-on-year to $775 million.

These regional changes suggest renewed investor confidence in digital assets outside the United States, reflecting both broader adoption and regulatory clarity in countries like Germany and Canada. Investors can view this as an indicator of the growing participation of institutions and individuals in crypto markets globally.
Asset Rotation Highlights Ethereum and Some Altcoins
Even though overall inflows have remained strong, Bitcoin has seen a slowdown. Flows to Bitcoin products decreased by 35%, totaling $26.9 billion. Some investors turned to short Bitcoin products, which received $105 million in inflows, although total assets under management remained low at $139 million.

Ethereum dominated the gains, attracting $12.7 billion in inflows, up 138% from the previous year. Other altcoins also saw impressive growth, with XRP flows increasing by 500% to $3.7 billion and Solana by 1,000% to $3.6 billion. At the same time, the remaining altcoins saw a decline in interest, with inflows falling 30% year-over-year to $318 million.
A concrete example is decentralized finance platforms based on Ethereum, which continue to attract retail and institutional investors. The rotation into certain altcoins may reflect investors seeking exposure to projects with growing adoption, active development, and utility beyond speculative trading.
