  • Shanghai+Capella (aka Shapella) is on the horizon. Stakers, node operators, infrastructure providers: pay attention and test!

Shapella on the horizon 🌅

After extensive testing and development, the Shanghai+Capella (Shapella) mainnet upgrade is moving to the final pre-launch sequence: public testnets!

THE Zhejiang Test Network is online and available for stakers and users to test Shapella TodayAnd the first of the long-running public testnets – Sepolia – is scheduled to be upgraded on February 28.

Shapella contains many features, but the most important one for stakers and the consensus layer is the ability to withdraw funds. Full withdrawals will be available for exiting validators, while partial withdrawals will be available for active validator balances above 32 ETH. In order for validators to participate in withdrawals, they must: must have a runtime layer withdrawal credential 0x01. If a validator currently has a BLS withdrawal credential 0x00, they must sign a modification operation on 0x01 to enable withdrawals.

Please see this ETH Withdrawal FAQ to learn more about withdrawal mechanisms and enabling withdrawals for your validator.

If you are an Ethereum staker, node operator, infrastructure provider or otherwise, NOW Now is the time to get updated on the upcoming Shapella update, test your software, and pay attention to it. From here, every public testnet will be upgraded, and if all goes according to plan, the mainnet will follow soon.
