So, it's been over 4 1/2 years now since I invested in cryptocurrency with the idea of just holding it as a long-term investment. Is the "long-term" idea fool's gold, or a useful strategy?
Personal data point: In April and May 2021, somewhat over 4 1/2 years ago, I invested $150K in cryptocurrency… 50% in bitcoin and 50% in ethereum, and I've just let it sit there because … life stuff. Looking at my account right now it's worth $151,665 which is up a whopping $1,665.
That's a total return of 1.11% in 4 years and 9 months. I'm not sure I could've picked another relatively well thought of investment that's done this poorly to date.
