For a long time, Bitcoin remained the major target of institutional investors, but lately, Ethereum is also appearing strongly on their radars. Many companies have started accumulating the leading altcoin at a significant rate, with some even abandoning some of their Bitcoin holdings to purchase more ETH.
Jane Street shows interest in Ethereum
As the crypto industry is growingthe market is now experiencing a major change in the interest of institutional investors. A number of companies are starting to increase their exposure to Ethereum while reducing their exposure to Bitcoin.
Jane Street is changing the way it is exposed to cryptocurrencies by increasing its stake in Ethereum and decreasing its holdings in Bitcoin Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). This move draws attention to the entire crypto market, as it may represent a shift in institutional preferences in the digital asset market.
Deci, market commentator, declared that Jane Street’s addition of ETH funds and reduction of exposure to BTC ETFs does not automatically make them ETH maximis. However, this suggests increasing and real turnover.
Large investors are increasingly interested in ETH, perhaps due to its growing role in decentralized finance (DeFi), tokenizationand blockchain infrastructure, even though Bitcoin has long dominated institutional portfolios. According to the expert, institutional investors are starting to treat ETH less as an altcoin and more as a separate macro asset alongside Bitcoin and gold.
In expert opinion, BTC was the first digital store of value, but ETH is now becoming the financial infrastructure trade. According to him, it is in such a distinction that the market continues to undervalue the altcoin.
The ETH network sees a significant profit margin realized
After a brief rebound in prices, Ethereum experienced an increase in profits earned, indicating a change in market dynamics. On Thursday, Santiment, an on-chain market intelligence and data analytics platform, reported that ETH recorded its highest network profits in 3 weeks.
It may seem counterintuitive to see a spike of $74.58 million in profits made, as the price of ETH has fallen 5.5% over the past 3 days. However, this trend is linked to the behavior of investors during price movements. ETH holders with a much lower cost basis are selling into the trough.
With ETH trading below $2,000 for much of February and March, savvy traders piled in despite war fears and increased uncertainty surrounding crypto at the time. Additionally, portfolios collected during these months are still profitable despite the mid-May slowdown. Meanwhile, many chose to sell, thinking they still had a chance to make money.

Santiment also highlighted an increase in the volume of on-chain movements on the Ethereum blockchain. The 4-hour candles show significant price compression at $2,241, indicating increased distribution activity on-chain. Historically, more transactions have led to more realized P&L events. As volume increases, even small individual profits add up to large network-level totals.
Based on current ETH trader behavior, Santiment noted that investors are cautious. However, this does not mean that new investors should be pessimistic. Instead, the platform suggests monitoring larger realized losses as a potential bottoming signal and avoiding aggressive positioning until the distribution phase shows clear signs of ending.
