Apple previewed new software releases introducing Siri AI, updated Apple Intelligence features and expanded parental controls. The company announced the changes during its Worldwide Developers Conference.

Summary

  • Apple previewed Siri AI on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.
  • The updates add new parental controls, Screen Time tools, and app access features for families.
  • AAPL stock closed at $301.54, down 1.89%, then declined to $300.67 in after-hours trading.

The updates cover iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27. Apple said the releases also include design changes and performance improvements across its entire product line.

Siri AI brings deeper system access

According to Apple, Siri AI will replace the current Siri experience on major Apple devices. The new version will work on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro. Apple said Siri AI can use personal context to search for messages, emails, photos and other content. It can also perform tasks in applications through extended system-wide actions. The company said its architecture protects user privacy while supporting these functions.

Siri AI can answer questions about the content displayed on a user’s screen. It can also access the web to provide current information when needed. Apple said a dedicated Siri app would allow users to review previous conversations. The app will also allow users to start new conversations from one place. Apple said iCloud will privately sync chat history across devices.

Apple said the next version of Apple Intelligence will support several everyday app features. Photos will benefit from more tools for image editing. Safari will add features for browsing multiple tabs. Messages and Mail will receive updates for communication tasks. Image Playground will also benefit from new creative features under Apple Intelligence.

Parental Controls Add New Safety Tools for Kids

Apple said the software releases will add more tools for parents managing child accounts. During setup, parents can choose which apps kids can access. Parents can also control which apps will be added later. Apple said age-based protections would apply systemwide when parents create child accounts. The setup wizard will guide parents through these choices when setting up the device.

Communications security tools will also benefit from more controls. Parents can require approval before children add new contacts. Apple said the system can also intervene when explicit or violent content appears. The company said these tools help families manage communication and access to apps. Apple also redesigned Screen Time to make usage data easier to read.

New Screen Time features include daily limits for entertainment, gaming and social media apps. Apple said the system can recommend daily allowances using advice from clinical and child development experts. Parents can also use schedules to control access to apps at different times. Screen Time will show average device usage and top apps. Apple also launched a dedicated website with family safety resources.

Software updates improve speed and design

Apple said the 2027 versions will improve speed across multiple devices and apps. The company said iPhone and iPad apps can launch up to 30% faster. Photos can load up to 70% faster after capturing them. AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster. Apple also said that external drive browsing on iPad can be up to five times faster.

Search tools will also receive updates to Spotlight, Photos, and Mail. Apple said it rebuilt Search to improve stability and efficiency. Mail will use a new ranking system to display more relevant results. The company said network switching between cellular and Wi-Fi would also improve. These changes target everyday tasks on Apple platforms.

Despite the new release, AAPL stock closed at $301.54, down $5.80, 1.89%, during regular trading. After hours, the stock rose to $300.67, down $0.87, or 0.29%. The one-day chart showed early trading near the $308 level before a sharp morning jump. Apple briefly topped $315, then traded between $312 and $315 before midday.
