“Ethics” meets crypto – Why Trump-linked WLFI is under pressure

There was a time when ethics and crypto rarely crossed paths.

The recent amendment to the CLARITY Act clearly demonstrates how much the industry has evolved.

As AMBCrypto previously explained, the new ethics provision introduces stricter rules for high-level officials, limiting their ability to own or benefit from certain crypto assets. This makes it more than a routine amendment. Instead, it puts the ownership of crypto itself in the spotlight.

One project already reflecting this shift is crypto WLFI, which is linked to the family of US President Donald Trump.

Since the announcement, WLFI’s (World Liberty Financial) technical and on-chain setup has started to weaken, showing how the market now ties “ethics” to who owns a crypto asset. This directly put the Trump family in the spotlight.

From a technical point of view, WLFI responded almost immediately.

As seen in the chart above, the token fell by over 5%, with its lowest value reaching $0.0513. In a single session, the selloff brought WLFI back to price levels last seen in early May, underscoring the market’s cautious reaction to the ownership narrative.

Notably, the same story played out in a chain.

Deep Blue Alpha tracked 163 WLFI whale wallets across 1,224 trades over the past 30 days, with $12.72 million in inflows versus $13.25 million in outflows, leaving a net outflow of $531.7k and a buy ratio of 49%. Sentiment has deteriorated further over the past 24 hours, with net outflows reaching $351,000 on a long ratio of just 22%.

Essentially, whales moved aggressively toward selling, suggesting that large holders quickly reduced their risks.

Given WLFI’s direct ties to the Trump family, it was not surprising to see the market associate the sale with the ethics provisions of the CLARITY Act. So while the amendment increases the chances of passage of the CLARITY Act, the reaction from World Liberty Financial (WLFI) suggests that traders are pricing in a different risk.

WLFI Price Action Deviates from Market Optimism Under CLARITY Act

President Trump’s latest financial revelations have once again put WLFI in the spotlight.

As AMBCrypto previously reported, Trump’s crypto projects generated approximately $1.4 billion in 2025, with WLFI contributing a significant portion of the Trump family’s crypto-related revenue.

This makes the WLFI breakdown particularly relevant, as it suggests that the Trump family is already weighing the implications of the new ethics provision. Despite this, the market has not fully embraced the amendment as a bullish catalyst.

As the chart below shows, the market now estimates just a 40% chance that the CLARITY Act will be signed into law in 2026, down from nearly 50% earlier this week.

Despite the revised draft addressing the ethics provision, traders continue to assess uncertainty over the path forward for the bill.

This is where the ownership factor starts to matter.

As previously mentioned, the ethics provision puts the Trump family’s crypto ownership under scrutiny.

This comes after Trump’s crypto projects generated $1.4 billion in 2025.

However, the lack of bullish momentum around the CLARITY Act suggests that the market may not view the WLFI selloff as a purely bullish signal.

The logic is simple: Traders are now wondering whether the ethics provision could create friction around approval of the bill. In this context, the moderate reaction around the CLARITY law could be a warning sign. The market may fear that this provision will complicate the progress of the bill.

Final summary

  • WLFI sees an increase in sales as the market responds to the new ethical rules.
  • The CLARITY Act remains a bullish catalyst, but traders fear the ethics provision could slow its approval.
