Andreessen Horowitz, better known as a16z, shared its annual list of 17 priorities for the crypto space in 2026. The partners discussed topics ranging from stablecoins, tokenization and finance to AI, privacy, security, prediction markets and new product creation.
These ideas reflect where a16z is heading the market and what manufacturers should focus on next year.
Stable coins and tokenized assets
a16z says stablecoins will continue to grow. They processed approximately $46 trillion in transactions in 2025. That’s more than 20 times PayPal and almost three times Visa. The challenge, notes a16z, is to connect stablecoins to everyday monetary systems.
17 things that excite us about crypto in 2026…
1. Better, smarter on/off ramps for stablecoins
2. Think about tokenization of real-world assets and stablecoins in a more crypto-native way
3. Stablecoins unlock the banking ledger upgrade cycle – and a new payment…

Startups are creating ways to exchange local money for stablecoins and allow people to spend them in stores. This could help workers get paid instantly in all countries and allow merchants to accept money without relying on banks.
The company also plans greater crypto-native tokenization of real-world assets. They suggest that things like perpetual futures could provide greater liquidity instead of copying old financial products.
a16z believes tokenized assets can help banks and fintechs make payments faster and reach more people while avoiding old system upgrades.
a16z also claims that AI and tokenized assets could make wealth management easier for everyone, not just the rich. Retail investors can gain access to private equity, pre-IPO companies, and private credit through crypto platforms.

AI, privacy and new tools
The company predicts that AI agents will automate tasks and payments. They say a new system called “Know Your Agent” or KYA will be needed to identify these AI agents. a16z also claims that AI could help in research, patents and smart contracts.
Privacy is another key point. a16z notes that private blockchains could be more robust, because it is more difficult to move from one private chain to another than to move from one public chain to another. Messaging and data can also become decentralized with “secrets as a service,” giving users more control over their information.
Other predictions include larger prediction markets, staked media with verifiable content, and crypto networks operating better with US laws. a16z sees 2026 as a year of more widespread adoption, AI tools, privacy, and new ways to use crypto securely.
