Hey r/Cryptocurrency community, I’m Tony, the founder of Obyte. Happy to introduce you to Obyte, if you’ve never heard about it, or heard too long ago.
Obyte is a DAG based cryptocurrency platform. What makes it different from other platforms is that power is decentralized here. Due to being based on DAG (Directed acyclic graph), every user in Obyte has the power to add their transactions directly to the ledger, with no middlemen involved. This is different from blockchains, where block producers are the power centers and middlemen that have the power to accept or not accept transactions into their blocks (to censor them).
Obyte stays true to the original cypherpunk and crypto-anarchist values of individual autonomy, independence from big power centers, and privacy. For me, that was what drew me to crypto when I first got involved in 2014. Unfortunately, now it seems to have lost its way and shifted to getting-rich-quick, institutional money, ETFs, and hyper-financialization.
We want to get crypto back to its cypherpunk roots.
To rebuild the community centered around these values we recently launched a cypherpunk-themed Obyte City, where community members establish closer connections with one another when they become neighbors in the City (along with earning some rewards). The idea is that stronger horizontal connections — independent of the team — make a stronger community. Feel free to explore: https://city.obyte.org.
