US federal prosecutors push a prison sentence up to 6.5 years for Avraham “AVI” Eisenberg, who was sentenced for his role in the feat of $ 110 million in decentralized mango markets in 2022.
In a judicial file of April 22, the prosecutors asked judge Arun Subramanian to inflict a sentence between 78 and 97 months before the Eisenberg condemnation hearing on May 1.
Eisenberg was found guilty in April 2024 of fraud by wire, fraud on raw materials and market manipulation linked to the attack on the mango markets.
He also faces separate accusations linked to the possession of juvenile pornography, which the prosecutors argue that a long prison sentence justifies.
Prosecutors highlight the closure of $ 100 million in the fraud and mango markets
In their file, the prosecutors underlined the severity of Eisenberg’s actions, declaring that its program not only defrauded investors with more than $ 100 million but also forced the mango markets to close.
“This sentence is necessary to reflect the severity of the accused’s crimes, dissuade future faults and protect the public,” said the file.
Mango Markets, launched in August 2021, announced in January 2024 that it would cease operations, citing the lasting impact of the feat. The platform officially closed its doors on February 3.
During his trial, the defense of Eisenberg argued that his actions were part of a legal trading strategy.
Although he returned around $ 67 million following a community governance vote, he has kept more than $ 40 million in the feat.
In an impact statement on the victim, Mango Markets asked for $ 47 million on return, arguing that the return of funds is essential to mitigate the financial damage caused by Eisenberg.
“No amount of money will repair reputation damage or the suffering inflicted, but the restitution will help make the whole community,” the statement noted.
Eisenberg was arrested in December 2022, and his conviction faced several delays due to what his legal team described as complex legal considerations.
Initially scheduled for the end of 2024, the hearing was postponed several times before being scheduled for May 2025.
If the court agrees with the prosecutors, Eisenberg could face one of the hardest sorrows pronounced to a feat linked to DEFI to date.
How Eisenberg manipulated contracts on the mango markets
On October 11, 2022, Mango Markets was the victim of an attack in which approximately $ 110 million was drained from his treasure.
Shortly after the attack, Avraham Eisenberg appeared as an author, claiming that the feat was only a “very profitable negotiation strategy” and claiming that it was carried out within the limits of legality and the planned design of the protocol.
According to the prosecutors, Eisenberg used two accounts to engage in manipulative trade involving term contracts linked to the values of the Mango token in Mango and the coin to the mouth of the range.
Last year, Eisenberg also faced additional accusations of possession of juvenile pornography.
At the time, court documents allegedly alleged that Eisenberg had images in his possession representing prepuber minors under 12 years of age.
Previous court documents filed in August revealed that the equipment had initially been discovered on mobile phones and laptops of Eisenberg during a search linked to the accusations of manipulation and market fraud.
