Crypto exchange giant Coinbase sets key themes for Bitcoin and crypto in 2026.
The company just released a new market outlook report examining regulatory advancements, technology trends, and where markets could go next year.
The report details a cautiously optimistic U.S. economy driven by productivity gains from AI, as well as significant regulatory change with laws such as the GENIUS Act for stablecoins and the CLARITY Act for market structure.
Coinbase notes the rapid increase in institutional adoption via spot ETFs and digital asset treasuries (DATs), with tokenized products gaining eligible collateral.
The company expects demand for privacy to increase via zero-knowledge proofs, as AI intersects with crypto in agent payments.
As for Bitcoin’s four-year cycles, Coinbase analysts say they are losing relevance amid institutional flows.
However, counterable quantum threats loom in the long term, providing incentive to mitigate post-quantum cryptography.
Coinbase also highlights incoming Ethereum upgrades, such as Fusaka for scalability and Glamsterdam for efficiency, while Solana plans to move from memecoins to proprietary AMMs and RWAs.
As for stablecoins, Coinbase says the collective market cap could reach $1.2 trillion by 2028, disrupting payments.
Meanwhile, tokenization could reach $18 billion, driven by Treasuries and private credit.
