The weekly calls of Ethereum all the main developers are much to follow, so this “Checkpoint“The series is targeting high level updates approximately every 4 to 5 weeks, depending on what is happening in the basic development. See the previous update here.

tl; DR
Basic developers focus on the Fusaka output and the choice of title features for the next upgrade, Glamsterdam. The discussions are underway and the stakeholders’ comments are underway requested. Gas limit increases and the expiration of stories were both delivered!
Fusaka
Fusaka will provide cheaper L2 transactions and more data availability. Developers already accelerated the upgrade to send Peers And now is the time of crunch. They are targeting a version by the end of the year, which may not seem soon, but the calendar is subject to some key constraints: Devonnect In November and time pads requested by community and security teams. Because of these constraints a characteristic It was not quite ready had to be abandoned the scope of Fusaka.
Chronology
Two 30 -day stamps have been integrated into the chronology of the upgrade since the Pectra upgrade:
- 30 days between the customer’s versions and the first Testnet upgrade. This was requested by the security teams, who need time to facilitate security opinions and audit competitions. With this tampon, we improve the chances of upgraded Testnet. When Holešky fell into a state of finishing with the Pectra testnet upgradeApplication developers have clearly indicated that, although these networks are made for testing, they rely on them to prepare their protocols for upgrades and want to minimize turbulence on them
- Opinion of 30 days before the Mainnet upgrade date. L2 and bridges have their own processes to follow to prepare an upgrade of Ethereum which sometimes includes their stakeholders voting to opt or trigger a locked process in time that cannot be accelerated. This stamp offers predictability protocols in Ethereum upgrades in order to be ready at the time of upgrade instead of rushing to be ready
In addition to that, the upgrade is performed via several time tests (these days, two: Sepolia & Hood) which look more closely at Mainnet Ethereum than the Devnets. Time is necessary to assess the upgrading of these testnets, identify all problems and coordinate the final fixes. It usually takes a few weeks by Testnet.
EIP-7907
EIP-7907which increases the size limit of the contract code and adds a gas measurement to loading the code, has been deleted from Fusaka because it lacked the necessary comparison and risked delaying the Fusaka chronology. While simpler proposals To increase the codes that put forward As an alternatives, their deadlines were not clear and would probably have delayed Fusaka and were therefore rejected. It was a disappointment to many developers but, for those interested, There is an opportunity To help put it in shape for the next upgrade, Glamsterdam. It is not currently guaranteed to be included and will need a champion to format it.
Glamsterdam
A new more organized process To determine the features of an upgrade is controlled with this upgrade. The upgrade will first choose its “headliner functionalities”, then select the other small features according to the headliner (s). The intention is to choose a maximum of a poster head for the consensus layer and one for the execution layer. A new EF creation tool, HuntHelp this effort by accessibly presenting the headliners and how they affect different categories of stakeholders.
To complete this, The comments are being solicited To ask the community to express their opinions on what should be the head of this upgrade and these are considered alongside Customer team prospects.
Decision calendar
The options for both layers are discussed until mid-August when a decision should be made. The next calls to come are July 31 (consensus) and August 7 (execution). Once the headliners are chosen, the chronology of smaller functionality proposals that can take place in parallel with the largest features will be discussed. It is, for example, when an EIP-7907 champion should come to calls.
Gas limit
During BerlinteropTest teams and customers have found a safe level to recommend a gas limit Increase to: 45m. Once The recommendation was madeIt was not long before enough operators set their limits to 45 m (or improved their customers with a new defect). At the time of writing the writing moment, the last gas limit of the block is 45,043,901 gas. The test teams are now on the way of how to know how to bring us to gradually higher limits – there will be more years between the recommendations to increase the gas limit.

History expiration
History expiration was delivered! Customers now assumed the history of pre-fumer in the validators by default. History Expire’s next step is the implementation of the expiration of the “rolling” history – which means that the date before which the history is abandoned will follow in real time so that storage does not develop continuously. Notes for the planning session of the expiration of history in Berlinterop can be found here.
In order to release Fusaka before DevConnect, customers must reduce the versions of August to mid-runner and test-tank upgrades must see minimum problems. This would place a Mainnet upgrade in early November. If we struggle, however, we lose a few weeks and it is somewhat unrealistic to expect the basic developers to be available during a large conference very well frequented like DevConnect. We could See a post-AdvConnect upgrade, before the holist season (and we have in the past!). The motivation to take out this fork is high and I always expect to see it by the end of the year.
Glamsterdam’s head discussions have been friendly controversial – most of those who argue for a functionality feel very strongly over its urgency. If we can send Fusaka by the end of the year, this makes these conversations a little softer because a faster rate of upgrade reduces the emergency to obtain an inserted feature in the next upgrade.
I am very encouraged by the number and variety of members of the Ethereum community who have scanned the discussions: L2, bridges, RPC suppliers, stake protocols, DAOS, Relais, House Stakers, Guardians, Dex, etc. Actively engage in the process to shape the basic protocol.
