What is good today? Well, nothing except it’s Christmas. Trust Wallet users have been burned out following a big Chrome browser hack, as the price of Bitcoin struggles despite gold and silver hitting all-time highs.
This Christmas Day, Trust Wallet users faced a major blow as their wallets were emptied in a phishing hack. The hacker targeted the Chrome extension version 2.68 and used a supply chain exploit to steal the wallets’ private keys. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and some EVM chains like BNB are affected, and in total, the hack cost over 600 Trust Wallet users approximately $7 million.
X’s ZachXBT, an on-chain detective, was one of the first to spot the problem and alert the community. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao confirmed the $7 million loss and promised a full refund to everyone affected. Trust Wallet released a patch with version 2.69, which stopped further theft.

But for the victims, the blow is shocking, and the damage is done. One of Trust Wallet’s users, who has been using crypto since 2018, said she followed all best practices and still had her funds stolen during the hack. However, CZ assured users that stolen funds would be covered, saying: “User funds are SAFU.”

The team is still investigating how hackers were able to submit a new version.

Beyond Trust Wallet Hack: Bitcoin price in the red, what’s happening in December?
Besides the Trust Wallet hack, the biggest pictures follow the price of Bitcoin, which struggled in December. We are seeing a familiar pattern of declines in the market, just as we saw over the past few Decembers.

Despite Bitcoin’s struggles and price fluctuations, there are some positives. The stablecoin market cap has reached an all-time high of $310 billion, a 70% increase in just one year, and crypto adoption continues to grow. Additionally, the total crypto market cap is still on the rise when compared year over year. But today’s expiration of Bitcoin and Ethereum options could create some volatility, with upside potential, and the bulls could take over.

For 2026, opinions are divided. Peter Schiff warns of an economic collapse that could eventually drag Bitcoin down. On the other hand, CZ Binance is still quite optimistic, predicting that 2026 could be the start of a “supercycle” for crypto, especially with mainstream adoption and better technology.

Even though we are seeing some near-term challenges, things like the growth of the stablecoin market and continued interest from institutional investors show that cryptocurrencies are here to stay. Additionally, we have seen in the past that Bitcoin tends to rebound in February after a difficult December and January.
So while the next few months could be a bit rocky, a strong recovery in 2026 could be in play. After all, crypto has had its share of ups and downs, and it bounces back every time. Remember, Bitcoin is a million dollar asset and nothing can change it forever, or just yet.
