Can’t travel these days Miss the people, not the planes Spadina, not Spain
tl;dr
Spadina’s “dress rehearsal” around the corner
We realize that engineers and the community could use an additional public launch of the testnet before mainnet to execute the moves. At the same time, we want to avoid disrupting the dynamics of Medalla. We have therefore opted for a short dress rehearsal which will take place alongside Medalla later this month. To welcome Spadin!
Spadina will be (primarily) a mainnet configuration testnet with an end of life (EOL) of 3 days. The main goal is to give us all another chance to go through one of the hardest and riskiest parts of the process – deposits and genesis – before reaching the mainnet. If all goes well, this should give us greater peace of mind before we get down to the real deal later this year.
Should you participate in Spadina?
If you want to try the latest and greatest iteration of Lauchpad, get your hands dirty with key generation and management, and see if you can configure your favorite client again from scratch, then Yes! You should definitely participate.
If you’ve already participated in several testnets, are an expert at managing keys and multiple clients from the command line, and regularly write custom systemd configurations and monitoring tools in your sleep, then I’ll let you the treatment 🙂
Note that Spadina has an end of life of 3 days. Although the testnet may remain active for a while after this, client teams, block explorers, and other key infrastructure providers will. not provide assistance to Spadina for more than 3 days.
Medalla Data Competition
Last week, the FE announced the Medalla Data Challenge with the goal of engaging more people in eth2 analysis and tools while simultaneously expanding the knowledge base, educational resources, and general understanding of eth2 and its networks.

DDP for the audit of shit BLS12-381 signature library
The Ethereum Foundation and Protocol Labs are funding an audit for the super fast shit BLS12-381 signature library.
Due to huge performance gains, the shit library (pronounced “blast”), built by Supranationalis quickly becoming the default signature library for eth2 clients. To ensure the library meets the standards required for mainnet, we are looking for an auditor to perform a full audit of both the low-level optimized code as well as the various language bindings.
Discover the Call for tenders here. Proposals are due September 18.
Beyond this audit, a formal verification of shitField, curve, and bulk signature operations are in progress. This work should be completed in early 2021 🚀
