Ethereum advances its long -term scalability strategy with a substantial technical change to integrate the Ethereum virtual machine of zero knowledge (ZKEVM) in the blockchain of layer 1.
On July 10, Sophia Gold, a developer of the Ethereum Foundation, said that the foundation aims to send the L1 ZKEVM in a year, marking a critical evolution in the pursuit of Ethereum of an effective and censorship -resistant scale.
Zero-Knowledge (ZK) cryptography makes it possible to check the assertions without revealing the underlying data. This cryptographic method has already experienced a general adoption in Ethereum Layer 2 solutions. Now, EF is preparing to provide ZKEVM capacities at the heart of the Ethereum chain itself.
Gold explained that the foundation is built towards a design where validators can choose to check the ZK displays instead of reversing the blocks. This approach consists in verifying several ZK nurses generated by distinct ZKVMs, each representing different EVM implementations.
Gold expressed his confidence that L1 ZKEVM could be live before DevConnect Argentina in November, citing rapid progress in the prouvance of efficiency and material design.
“ Provising in real time ”
A major objective for the next deployment of ZKEVM is to allow “real time in real time”, a process in which the validation of the blocks occurs in the time of the location of 12 seconds of the network.
The ZKEVM team defines proof in real time as the possibility of generating and verifying the evidence for 99% of the main blocks in 10 seconds, with aberrant values managed in future hard forks.
Above all, the Foundation wishes to make this process accessible to solo stakers by supporting “homes at home”. The idea is to allow individuals who direct validators from their homes or offices to participate in the resistant generation in ZK without relying on expensive or centralized infrastructure.
The EF has established clear technical benchmarks to achieve this goal. These include the proof latency in less than 10 seconds, capital expenses not exceeding $ 100,000, energy consumption of less than 10 kW and evidence under 300 KIB.
In addition, the whole code will be open source and the system must reach a minimum level of security of 128 bits.
Ecosystem development
The Ethereum Foundation has launched a new ecosystem development team (ECODEV) in parallel with its technical roadmap. The initiative is designed to improve accessibility and lead to broader adoption on the network.
The ECODEV team will focus on four key areas, particularly growing from the developer community, by improving relationships with application manufacturers and companies, by supporting research and allowing the success of the founders.
The team would focus on the supply of subsidies, financing programs and a dedicated launch for projects at an early stage.
According to the EF, the ultimate objective is to develop the Ethereum user base and strengthen its technical resilience and its social infrastructure.
