Key notes
- FIFA migrated its NFT platform to an EVM compatible blockchain for better performance and scalable.
- Migration should occur on May 20, 2025 or after.
- FIFA collection owners will have to re -implement the exported collectibles before the deadline.
The International Football Association Federation (FIFA) has announced its intention to launch a new blockchain platform for its collectibles of non-buttons (NFT) and its experiences of fans. The new platform, FIFA Blockchain, will be compatible with EVM and should offer improved performance, future features and improved scalability.
In the announcement made on April 30, FIFA revealed that its NFT, FIFA Collect collection, migrated from the Algorand blockchain to the new FIFA blockchain. The existing owners of the FIFA Collect NFTS will be able to access their collectibles on the new platform.
Currently, holders are not required to take measures, but if measures are necessary, FIFA will provide detailed instructions.
Details and actions of migration for FIFA collection owners
Migration should occur on May 20, 2025 or after or after.
FIFA collection owners can expect an experience similar to what they had before, with access to their collectibles via their existing accounts. The main difference will be the introduction of new features on the FIFA blockchain.
Migration will be free for all collection holders. However, FIFA noted that all the exported collectibles from the platform had to be replicated before May 20, 2025, in order to be included in migration.
To facilitate this, FIFA collection accounts will temporarily allow the reinportation functionality. Holders who do not reproduce their items by the deadline must contact customer support and may have to go through an additional verification process.
USDC users will be able to spend their parts before migration, but withdrawals will only be authorized after the migration date. On the day of migration, the platform should be temporarily offline for about 12 hours. Users will be informed in advance.
The announcement also said that after the completion of migration, portfolios based on Algorands blockchain, such as Defly and Pera, will no longer be supported. Instead, holders will have to go to EMV compatible wallets, such as Metamask, to access their collectibles.
The transition to an EVM compatible blockchain aligns with a broader trend in the industry, because more projects adopt Ethereum standards to stimulate the scalability, interoperability and adoption of developers.
Platforms as injective have recently launched the EVM native support, reaching high speed and allowing advanced functionalities such as AI on chain and the institutional quality challenge, highlighting the growing momentum behind the EVM-based infrastructure.
