FIFA has made a silent but quite significant change in its web game plan. The World Football Organization abandons the Algorands and moves its digital collection project, FIFA Collect, on Avalanche. This decision is not only a technical mixture, it reflects the changing vision of FIFA of what fans really want from NFTS and how it plans to deliver them. The avalanche blockchain gives FIFA a clean slate to rethink the way fans collect, exchange and engage with moments of digital football.
So what changes?
FIFA Collecture was launched in 2022 on Algorand, just in time for the World Cup in Qatar. It was a relatively fluid deployment, with fans capable of buying and exchanging NFT cards with protruding facts, players and moments of the tournament. But now, FIFA closes the door on Algorand and restarts the project with Avalanche.
Is this the biggest partnership in the history of web3?

Avalanche will feed a dedicated blockchain environment, called subnet, just for FIFA. This subnet will serve as a new house for all current and future FIFA NFT.
Why Avalanche?
There is no official declaration throwing a shade on Algorand, but FIFA clearly seeks something a little more flexible and accessible. Avalanche ticks a few key boxes: fast transactions, low costs, and it works with the Ethereum virtual machine. This last part is important because it means that the FIFA NFT market will now be compatible with traditional portfolios like Metamask.
It also allows developers to more easily create future features. So that FIFA plans to add new types of collection, gamified elements or awards for interactive fans, Avalanche gives it more room to experiment without breaking the experience.

What does this mean for fans?
If you already have a FIFA Collect NFT, you will have to prepare for a move. The plan is to migrate everything, from Algorand to the avalanche. It also means that certain portfolio applications, such as Pera and Profly, which are constructed specifically for the Algorands, will no longer work.
In the future, you will use portfolios that connect via WalletConnect, which includes Metamask and other EVM compatible applications. FIFA said that it would publish the instructions step by step when the time comes, so that users are not to guess. But you may want to familiarize yourself with Metamask now if you are not already.
Bigger image: Reset for FIFA web3 plans?
It is difficult not to read this as a mild restart for the entire NFT strategy of FIFA. The first wave of digital collectibles in 2022 took place and came without too much momentum in the long term. Now, by changing chains and referring to “new profitability studies”, FIFA seems ready to try again, perhaps with more than digital trading cards.
There was no confirmation on the next step, but the avalanche configuration suggests that FIFA looks beyond the simple NFT. This decision opens the door to more interactive experiences, the deeper commitment of fans and perhaps even to multiplatform collaborations with other applications of the avalanche ecosystem.

What happened to Algorand?
Algorand, formerly marked as an official partner of FIFA blockchain, was released. The partnership does not obtain a spectacular rupture article, but it is clearly done. Algorand has had a difficult year with layoffs and leadership changes, and this news will not help you. However, the chain remains active in other sectors such as DEFI and the tokenization of real assets.
Ahead
This switch is more than a backend upgrade. It is FIFA resumes its digital strategy and the choice of a more familiar platform for crypto and more versatile users for developers. If the fans really show it time, and paste around, is the biggest question.
But if FIFA does things correctly, this avalanche partnership could finally transform FIFA into something more than another NFT market.
