Three adolescents are accused of having removed a man under the threat of a firearm outside his apartment in Las Vegas, stealing $ 4 million in crypto and in NFT before abandoning it in the distant desert of Arizona, according to a new report of 8 News Now.
The attack occurred during a night in November of last year, after the victim left a cryptographic event in a company in downtown Las Vegas.
Upon his return to his apartments complex and parked from his car, he was caught under the threat of a weapon by three teenagers – later identified as Belal Ashraf, Austin Fletcher and a third anonymous suspect.
The attackers forced him to enter the back seat of their vehicle, placed a towel above his head and warned him not to look at them. The suspects said that if he wanted to see another day, he had to cooperate. They threatened to kill the victim and his father if he did not comply.
Under constraint, the victim was ordered to give passwords and grant access to his cryptographic accounts. Throughout the test, the suspects seemed to receive instructions from someone on the loudspeaker – suggesting that there was a fourth accomplice coordinated at a distance and directing the extortion in real time.
The trio would have led the victim to White Hills, Arizona, more than 70 miles from Las Vegas.
After having emptied $ 4 million in crypto and NFT human accounts, the suspects threw him into the desert and fled. The victim managed to walk five miles to a service station, where he contributed to help.
The deposit set at $ 4 million
Investigators followed a suspect vehicle in Florida in Nevada, stopping in key places, including the victim’s apartments complex.
In Mississippi, the police recovered a firearm linked to the family member of a suspect who corresponded to a weapon presented in one of the publications of adolescent social media.
Ashraf and Fletcher, 16 and the county of Pasco, Florida, are now accused of theft of theft, removal and extortion alongside the third unidentified suspect, which, according to prosecutors, has left the United States.
Documents also revealed that adolescents had a disruptive behavior file in a high school in Florida, including swearing in several languages and physically confronting the school staff.
At the hearing of the probable cause of Fletcher, the judge of the court of justice of Las Vegas, Daniel Westmeyer, set a deposit at $ 4 million. Ashraf obtained release under electronic surveillance.
Cryptographic investors are targeted for removal and theft
An increasing wave of abductions and attempted extortion targets individuals related to crypto, such as investors, entrepreneurs and public figures.
The Texas -based streamer, Amouranth, was the victim of an invasion of domicile in March during which the armed suspects would have held it under the threat of a weapon and demanded access to his cryptographic farms. Four people were then arrested as part of the attack.
Outside the United States, recent incidents have increased at alarming levels of physical violence. So far this year, there have been three cases of abduction linked to the crypto in France.
The victims included the co-founder of Ledger David Balland and, more recently, the father of a Paris cryptography entrepreneur who was kidnapped earlier this month, according to Le Parisien.
The law enforcement organizations in several countries sound the alarm of this growing threat. Officials warn that organized criminal groups are increasingly targeting people known to have significant digital assets and urge improved personal security protocols.
