It is unlikely that the founder of the FTX Sam Bankman (SBF) will be serving the 25 full years of his prison sentence. Although he remains in probation, he could have up to 4 years reduced by his sentence due to good conduct and participation in penitentiary programs since his imprisonment.
Good Conduct Time and Programs to save banks
According to Business Insider, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) believes that Sam Bankman Fried (SBF) will be published on December 14, 2044. This is considerably earlier than the full sentence of 25 years exerted for its role in the collapse of the FTX, the Bahamian Crypto-Monnus exchange of cryptocurrency he founded.
A representative of the BOP calculated the release dates after having considered the projected “driving time”.
The office also noted that eligible people serving a prison sentence can earn 54 days for each year of their sentence. Certain programs provided by the prison are written in the context of initiatives which can reduce the prison sentence of imprisoned individuals.
“Finally, individuals can also receive a credit for the time imprisoned before their date of determination of the sentence,” said BOP representative to Business Insider.
It should be noted that Caroline Ellison, partner of Bankman Fried and former CEO of Alameda Research, qualifies for early release. She was sentenced to 2 years in prison and is expected to be released by May 2026.
This calendar suggests that she had up to six months shaved her prison sentence.
