Google added zero knowledge proof technology (ZKP) to its Google Wallet platform to strengthen user confidentiality in digital identity systems.

The company has confirmed that this feature is active and allows users to check their age between applications, websites and devices, without disclosing personal information.

According to Google:

“We will use ZKP, if necessary, in other Google products and we will associate with applications like Bumble, which will use the digital IDs of Google Wallet to check the identity of the user and the ZKP to check the age.”

In addition, the technology giant plans to open its ZKP tools, allowing other portfolio and developers suppliers to adopt confidentiality authentication systems.

This evolution stems from Google’s effort to create an identity layer preserving confidentiality, especially since more online services such as meeting platforms require age validation. He explained:

“Since many sites and services require age verification, we wanted to develop a system that not only checks age, but the fact in a way that protects your privacy.”

Evidence of zero knowledge is cryptographic tools that allow one to confirm one fact to another without revealing the underlying data.

In particular, ZKPs are already used in blockchain ecosystems such as Cardano and Ethereum to allow private transactions, identity verification and evolutionary solutions. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has also highlighted their potential in areas such as falsifying, monitoring of the supply chain and data security.

Meanwhile, the adoption by Google de Zkps has received praise from the cryptographic community, many of which consider it as a validation for a technology for a long time defended in the blockchain space.

Rob Viglione, co-founder of Horizen Labs, said Cryptoslate The fact that Google is “a clear signal that innovations focused on confidentiality becomes the current and that zero knowledge will become one of the most transformative cases of crypto (which advantage) everyday users.

He added:

“It is exciting to see leading companies recognize that privacy should not be a luxury or a reflection afterwards; It should be a defect. “
