President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that a group of House Republicans who had blocked several bills on cryptocurrency regulation to move forward earlier in the day had changed their minds following a White House meeting and would now vote to advance the legislation.
“I am in the oval office with 11 of the 12 members of the congress / women necessary to adopt the law on genius and, after a brief discussion, they all agreed to vote tomorrow morning in favor of the rule,” wrote Trump on Truth social shortly before 9 p.m.
Trump said that chamber president Mike Johnson called for the meeting and “can’t wait to take the vote as soon as possible”.
It was a dramatic and rapid rebound for the elaborations supported by Trump, which only a few hours ago had faced an uncertain path, after the bills were not erased a key procedural obstacle.
The bills can only advance when the Chamber approves the rules of debate for legislation. The last surprise statement of the vote on Tuesday was 196 in favor of approval and 223 against.
Thirteen Republicans voted with democrats to prevent legislation from progressing.
The measures had been largely supposed to pass. The failure of the rule during what is presented as a “crypto week” was a rare example of the Républicains de la Chambre refusing to take directives from Trump, at least temporarily.

The representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-GA., One of the republicans who opposed the measure, wrote in an article on X: “I have just voted no on the rule of the law on genius because it does not include the ban on the digital currency of the Central Bank and because President Johnson did not allow us to submit amendments to the Genius law.”
“President Trump included a ban on CBDC in his executive decree of January 23 and the Congress must also include the prohibition of the CBDC in the Act respecting genius,” wrote Greene.
Trump had praised “the crypto weekend” during an article on his social platform Truth earlier Tuesday and urged all the Republicans of the Chamber to vote “yes” on the measure.
“The Chamber will soon vote on a huge bill to make America the undisputed leader and number one of digital assets – nobody does it better!” Trump wrote.
“The act of genius will put our Lightyears of Grand Nation before China, Europe and all the others, who are constantly trying to catch up, but they simply cannot do it,” he wrote.
“Digital assets are the future, and we are doing a lot! Make the first vote this afternoon (all Republicans should vote yes!),” Said Trump.
