How are developers making money in cryptocurrency and/or crypto-trading?

Just a teenager with no experience in crypto, trying to understand how this whole space works. I’m a software developer with experience in app, web, and game development, and I’m curious about gaining exposure to blockchain. Is software development actually a useful skill in crypto or crypto trading? If so, how? If not, why? I’m trying to get a broad picture of what kinds of technical work exist in crypto, what roles are out there, how people typically get started, and what skills matter most early on.
