Last month, I had the opportunity to attend the Mit Bitcoin Expo, an event that brought together some of the brightest minds in the cryptocurrency industry. During the event, I had the pleasure of sitting with Sjors Provoost, a Bitcoin basic developer.
Sjors’ trip to the world of bitcoin is interesting. He began his career in an area that may seem unrelated – physics. However, it turns out that this transition is not as rare as one might think. Sjors began to contribute to Bitcoin Core in 2017, during a particularly turbulent period in the Bitcoin industry. At the time, the activation of the separate witness moved, marking the culmination of block wars with the Softfork activated by the user and the New York agreement.
In addition to his work as a Bitcoin basic developer, Sjors also co-hosts a podcast entitled “Bitcoin, explained” with Aaron Van Wirdum, the current editor of Bitcoin magazine. As part of his efforts to demystify the complex world of Bitcoin, he recently wrote a book entitled “Bitcoin: A Work in Progress”. The book explores the technical aspects of Bitcoin, each chapter corresponding to an episode of the podcast.
During our conversation, we plunged into the Bitcoin Core project. We have discussed its structure, what it is to work on such a project and the challenges that can arise for those who decide to contribute directly to the Bitcoin kernel.
The Bitcoin Core project, said Provoost, is a decentralized project, which means that there are no central authority decisions. All those who contribute to the project do it voluntarily, motivated by his passion for Bitcoin and the desire to ensure his continuous success. However, this structure can make challenges. For example, reaching consensus on changes or improvements can be difficult due to the decentralized nature of the project.
Despite these challenges, working on the Bitcoin Core project is an enriching experience, shared Provoost. It allows developers to contribute to the evolution of Bitcoin and to shape the future of the first and the largest cryptocurrency in the world.
His words recall the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in the world in constant evolution of Bitcoin. This testifies to the dedication and commitment of those like Sjors Provost, who are at the forefront of this revolutionary technology, working tirelessly to improve and evolve it.
For those who wish to obtain an in -depth overview of our conversation, the full interview is available online. It provides fascinating information on the world of Bitcoin development and the role of Bitcoin kernel in the growth and continuous success of this revolutionary cryptocurrency.
In conclusion, MIT Bitcoin Expo was an enriching experience, and the opportunity to sit with Sjors Provoost provided a unique perspective in the world of Bitcoin development. His passion for the project and his commitment to his success are really inspiring and indicative of the brilliant future that Bitcoin has in advance.
