The Protocol Support Team is organizing a series of grants to support the upcoming Ethereum KZG Ceremony.
The KZG ceremony is a coordinated public ritual that will provide a cryptographic foundation for Ethereum scaling initiatives such as EIP-4844Learn more about the ceremony and take part in the test version at ceremony.ethereum.orgIf you would like financial support to contribute on a deeper level, there are two ways to apply:
- write your own implementation
- submit entropy generated by non-traditional sources or by a unique process
→ APPLY BEFORE JANUARY 31 or learn more below
Write your own implementation
The best way to avoid a bug affecting the entire ceremony is to have as many different implementations as possible. This eliminates the possibility of single points of failure due to software implementation bugs and reduces other related risks. To this end, we want to fund different implementations, especially those with the following characteristics:
- Custom/Bespoke BLS Implementations
- auditable code
- easy to use interfaces
- good random generation
- unique languages and compilers
- ready-to-use implementations at the beginning of the contribution phase (which starts in early January and lasts about 2 months)
This ceremony has been specially designed to be as simple as possible to contribute to, and we encourage everyone to take a look. specifications.
Our suggested funding requests for basic >> full implementations range from $500 to $10,000.
Unique Contribution Methods
Another way to ensure that the final outcome of the ceremony is unbiased is to collect entropy (randomness) and ensure its destruction in creative ways. We accept proposals that:
- collect unique forms of entropy
- contributes this entropy to the Ceremony
- then destroys entropy
- documents the above in a credible/verifiable manner (e.g. video evidence, blog post with images, detailed written documentation)
Submit a proposal
Anyone who believes they can achieve some of the above is encouraged to apply to this grant round, as an individual or as a team.
Grants will be awarded on a case-by-case basis and on a rolling basis. You may submit multiple proposals as long as each is unique and meets the requirements.
→ APPLY BEFORE JANUARY 31
Requirements
- Proposals must be written in English
- The work must be open source
- Proposals should aim to be complete by the end of the general submission period.
Selection criteria
Surprise us with your creativity! Here are some selection criteria to consider to help guide your proposal:
- Uniqueness of the proposal
- Quality of work and experience of the speakers
- Clarity, conciseness and organization of the proposal
- Contributions that help a non-technical audience better understand the ceremony: why it is important and how it works
Deadline
Submit by January 31, 2023 to consider! We will respond to you by email. The general public contribution period will likely begin in early January and last two months, followed by the special contribution period which is specifically for projects funded under this grant cycle.
