Kraken Wallet now offers encrypted iCloud backups for your Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP). This feature provides a simple and secure way to store your SRP and retrieve your wallet, ensuring you always have access to your cryptoassets.

Kraken Wallet users enjoy custodial freedom, maintaining full control over their own funds. However, with this power comes the responsibility to protect your PRS. An SRP, also known as a seed phrase or mnemonic phrase, is a set of randomly generated words permanently associated with a crypto wallet that allows a user to access and restore or migrate that crypto wallet.
If you lose access to your wallet and do not have your SRP, you will not be able to recover your assets. The most common way to maintain your SRP is to write it down manually and keep it in a safe place. While we encourage all users to take this important step, we want to provide additional peace of mind. That’s why we introduced encrypted iCloud backup.
This new feature encrypts your 12-word SRP and stores it securely in a unique access key. By leveraging iCloud Keychain infrastructure, your passkey is automatically synced across all your devices. This means you no longer have to worry about lost or new devices.
Recovery is simple: you can import your iCloud backup in just a few clicks. You will also always have the option to manually import your SRP.

We built iCloud Backup using industry-leading security features.
- Encrypted cloud recovery using passkeys with the Large Blob extension for iOS. Compatible with iOS 17 and later
- The Large Blob extension allows secure storage of user-specific data that is cryptographically linked to a Passkey identifier. (Your SRP is stored directly with the Passkey)
- This data can only be retrieved when the user successfully authenticates with the access key
What does all this mean? You don’t need to trust Kraken or Apple to know your recovery passphrase is stored securely. In simple terms, only you Press and hold to view and use your SRP. Apple can’t see it, and neither can we.

Create a backup
It’s quick and easy to create a backup with Kraken Wallet, whether you’re a new or existing user.
New users can simply tap the Back up with iCloud option when creating a wallet. You will then always have the option to manually save your secret recovery phrase for added security.
Existing users can go to Settings and tap the button Back up with iCloud option to get started.
Import a backup
Simply press the Import and select Import from iCloud.
