Vienna Blockchain Week 2025 concluded after three dynamic days of keynotes, debates, regulatory deep dives, and high-impact product launches, firmly positioning Vienna as one of Europe’s most influential hubs for blockchain advancement. Organized by DLT Austria under the leadership of Founder Ed Prinz and Head of Growth Nasib Fathi, the conference brought together 70+ global experts, policymakers, investors, and infrastructure builders to shape the next era of digital assets in Europe.

Hosted at the Web3 Hub Vienna from September 9–11, the event centered on the convergence of regulation, infrastructure, and digital asset investment, highlighting how Europe is rapidly transitioning from theoretical frameworks to real-world blockchain integration.

A Deep Dive Into Europe’s Regulatory & Security Landscape

Day one opened with Security and Forensics, Compliance and Regulations, and Tax and Reporting tracks. Experts emphasized the increasing complexity of global oversight in digital assets.

  • Crystal Intelligence’s Jacek Trzmiel outlined how financial institutions now rely on blended on-chain and off-chain intelligence to combat illicit activities.
  • PwC Austria’s Johannes Edlbacher broke down the global implications of CARF, stressing its impact on exchanges and institutional reporting.
  • Deloitte Legal’s Alireza Siadat debunked major misconceptions surrounding MiCAR, while EY Law Austria’s Paul Neubauer & Alexander Glaser examined how rollups, bridges, and Layer-2 networks fit into EU regulatory frameworks.

Bitcoin, DeFi & Infrastructure Take Center Stage

Day two explored Bitcoin scalability, smart contract infrastructure, stablecoins, payments innovation, and the future of DeFi. One of the most influential sessions was the “Bitcoin Mining, Energy & Infrastructure” panel moderated by Nasib Fathi, featuring experts from Cambridge University, SEND.SOCIAL, and Modul University Vienna.
A major highlight came from Bybit EU, which announced the Bybit Card for Europe—a fully MiCAR-compliant Mastercard debit card enabling crypto payments at 90+ million merchants globally.

Tokenized Assets & Institutional Investment Lead Day Three

Day three showcased the future of tokenized assets, crypto indices, and institutional on-ramps.

  • Venionaire Capital AG unveiled the VLONE Index, Europe’s first regulated Layer-One crypto index listed on Bloomberg.
  • SMAPE Capital’s Astrid Woollard outlined due diligence best practices for token investments.
  • Valour & DeFi Technologies’ Andrew Forson emphasized the expanding role of ETPs as compliant gateways for institutional crypto adoption.

A major side event at Central European University hosted by BlackVogel and OSCE experts brought regulators, legal specialists, and industry leaders together to address inside-information risks, market abuse frameworks, and the regulatory classification of emerging assets such as liquid staking tokens.

Supported by leading global institutions, Vienna Blockchain Week 2025 reaffirmed Vienna’s stature as a catalytic force in Europe’s digital asset evolution.

Key Takeaways

  • Europe is entering a phase of real-world blockchain integration, backed by regulatory clarity.
  • MiCAR and CARF are accelerating institutional readiness and compliance frameworks.
  • Tokenized indices like VLONE signal a new era of regulated investment vehicles.
  • Infrastructure conversations are shifting toward scalability, energy efficiency, and security.
  • Product launches such as the Bybit Card highlight rapid consumer-facing innovation in Web3.
