The motion received support from various political factions in Bern
On November 28, 20024, the Grand Council of Bern voted decisively, by 85 votes to 46, in favor of a proposal to study the feasibility of Bitcoin mining as a way to use excess energy and to stabilize the electricity network.
The motion, led by Samuel Kullmann, received the support of various political factions in the canton, including some traditionally conservative parties.
Kullmann noted that despite debates clouded by fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD), approval of the proposal indicates a growing recognition of Bitcoin’s role in technological progress.
The council’s decision reflects an openness to exploring innovative solutions that could give Bern a competitive advantage over other regions aspiring to become crypto innovation hubs.

Tether CEO impressed by crypto regulations in Switzerland
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, also expressed how impressed he was that Lugano accepts taxes on Bitcoin.
“I come from a small town. My grandparents trusted three people: the priest, the doctor and the banker. I think this banker should go back to being the banker of yesteryear. We are a company. The company was born to be peer-to-peer.
Applauding Foletti, who was re-elected this year as mayor, Ardoino said that “Lugano has become this huge showcase in the world for the acceptance of taxes paid in Bitcoin.”
