The decentralized finance (DEFI) on the Bitcoin blockchain can always be in its infancy compared to Ethereum, but Bitcoin Defi (BTCFI) becomes safer and cheaper, the cryptographic analysis company, said Messari in a new report.
A central participant is Roottstock, one of the oldest Bitcoin Layer-2 projects, said the Crypto Messari analysis company on Thursday in his report “State of Rootstock”.
The rootstock is now ensured by 81% of the Total Hashrate of Bitcoin, which means that the miners who explain the amount that the hashrate also approves transactions on layer 2.. The figure was only 56% before the integration of the foundry and Spiderpool, respectively the largest and the sixth of the sixth row of the world, respectively in February.
Messari has also observed that transaction costs on the rootstock is 95% cheaper than the average Bitcoin transaction and 55% cheaper than those of Ethereum.
Rootstock is one of the many projects that seek to bring a larger Bitcoin utility by widening the disposition of DEFI with intelligent contracts, activated by “BitvMX”, a modified version of the BITVM programming language. Other prominent Bitcoin Layer-2 projects include Stacks and Bob (“Build on Bitcoin”).
The project was also connected to the puncture protocol layer to allow native rootstock applications to connect with dozens of other blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana. His momentum opens the way to the growing adoption of BTCFI through the rest of 2025, according to Messari.
“While BTCFI continues to grow, Rootstock is well positioned for wider adoption by basic upgrades, such as a 60% reduction in transaction costs, as well as prolonged investments in the education of manufacturers and incentive programs,” said Andrew Yang, Messari analyst.
