The Eastern European country in Bélarus is expected to deploy a digital currency from the Central Bank (CBDC) by next year.
Citing a declaration by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Bank, novel Golovchenko, the press agency managed by the State, Belta, reports that the digital form of the Belarusian ruble will be in full circulation by the second half of 2026.
Golovchenko says that at that time, commercial entities will be able to use CBDC – The digital form of the official currency of the country which is issued and supported by the Central Bank. The plan is to put the digital rubble available to state organizations and individuals by 2027.
He says that the central bank is responsible for identifying the requirements for the adoption of digital ruble, creating the necessary software and developing a regulatory framework.
“The digital ruble is in the sphere of our priorities. We are actively working on its creation … We are faced with the question of fund safety. It will be very important to be able to follow how digital money goes through the whole chain. ”
Golovchenko says that digital currency has promising solutions for cross -border establishments and that Bélarus is already working in close collaboration with Russia, which is also creating its own CBDC.
“We are already working on a joint action plan for the use of these tools in mutual establishments.”
