The Ethereum Foundation (EF) announcement On February 19, a new interoperability initiative called the OPEN framework to rationalize transversal transactions on the compatible networks of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) supplied by intentions.

The project will attack the ineffectiveness which arise from the navigation of the Ethereum lose-2 (L2) ecosystem (L2). Hyperlan and Bootnode support the initiative, which is an open source modular infrastructure designed to simplify and accelerate interoperability based on intention.

The intentions are user -friendly mechanisms that allow the execution of transactions automatically and optimally between the blockchains. Consequently, users do not need to find different decentralized bridges and applications to perform simple transactions, such as a swap.

The initiative has received the support of 30 Ethereum ecosystem teams, including the largest layer 2 blockchains per total locked value, such as arbitrum, optimism and polygon.

Fragmented liquidity

Ethereum’s L2 ecosystem has more than $ 36 billion of total locked value, fragmented in 59 Rollups, based on L2Beat data.

The announcement stressed that users are engaged with various applications to be on networks such as arbitrum, fashion and base. In addition, large technological companies like Sony have entered space with their own L2 solutions.

Despite this progress, the lack of transparent interoperability between the channels remains an important barrier. The Foundation aims to improve the user experience by taking advantage of the unification intentions of the ecosystem, by transforming it from a fragmented L2 collection into a more cohesive network.

The open intention framework is built on the ERC-7683 standard, proposed by Laboratoires Uniswapand the interoperability protocol through, introduced in April 2024. This standard facilitates transversal intention agents, allowing higher interactions between networks.

However, while intentions offer an elegant solution, their adoption presents challenges. New channels must carry out in -depth commercial development to obtain the support of existing protocols.

Modular tools

The execution of a solver – an agent responsible for the execution of transactions – requires significant investments due to liquidity management, settlement costs and continuous technical maintenance.

To respond to these obstacles, the framework introduces a series of modular tools designed to simplify the creation and deployment of intention -based protocols. A Solver based on Typecript monitors events on the chain and performs intentions, reducing dependence on the owner infrastructure.

Composable intelligent contracts allow developers to create and regulate intentions more effectively. A customizable user interface model is also included to improve accessibility and adoption.

Standing the execution of the intention through Ethereum, the open intention framework allows developers to build the central infrastructure without reinventing, considerably reducing the general market and operational costs.
