The co-founder Ethereum Vitalik Buterin described a rationalized roadmap to improve the confidentiality of layer 1 on the blockchain network.

In a blog article on April 11, Buterin presented a framework focused on improving user confidentiality without requiring significant changes in the main network infrastructure.

The proposal targets four distinct areas of confidentiality, in particular by carrying out payments on the private channel, partially masking the actions of users in decentralized applications, hiding data in reading the blockchain and anonymizing communications in the network.

Buterin said that if these upgrades are implemented, they could inaugurate a new standard in which private transactions become the default.

He continued that if individual DAPP activity can remain visible, the link between a user’s actions on several platforms would be obscured.

The co-founder of Ethereum concluded that this approach would offer the confidentiality of observers and threats in terms of infrastructure as of compromise RPC nodes.

Key components

Buterin’s proposal begins with the integration of confidentiality tools such as Railgun directly in Ethereum wallets. He argued that this would allow users to manage the armored sales without relying on third -party wallets, which makes confidentiality more accessible by default.

According to him:

“There should be an” sending armored balance “option, ideally activated by default. All this should be designed to feel as much as possible from the UX point of view. Users should not have to download a separate “confidentiality portfolio”.

He also pleaded for the use of a separate address for each DAPP. Although this approach can introduce compromise of user experience, it considerably limits the traceability of the activity on several applications.

To take care of this, transactions sent to oneself must preserve the default confidentiality; A Buterin design considers if necessary despite the additional complexity.

The widening of this, Buterin has explained that such changes align well with existing efforts in transversal interoperability, where users already interact with various channels thanks to separate workflows.

He stressed that the integration of these features into integrated portfolios would help standardize private interactions without major architectural gap.

Buterin has also called for technical improvements, such as using the confidentiality of RPC based on TEE as a short -term solution and transition planning to a private information recovery (PIR) when ready.

Additional recommendations include the connection of each DAPP to separate the RPC nodes, advance proof aggregation protocols and support key portfolios improved by confidentiality.
