The Trump Administration plans to candidates for alternative president of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) after Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss put pressure against the appointment of Brian Quintenz.
It is according to a Bloomberg Note that sources mentioned saying that people under study include Michael Selig, chief lawyer of the working group on the Crypto of the SEC; Tyler Williams, Treasury advisor on digital asset policy; Summer Mersinger, current CFTC commissioner; And Marco Santori, Legal Director of Kraken.
Quintenz’s confirmation has been at staller since February, leaving the agency with a single commissioner, Caroline Pham, as an acting president.
Winklevoss twins block the Quintenz path to the CFTC chair
At the beginning of the month, Quintenz publicly accused the Winklevoss twins of having undermined his appointment and said they may have misleaded Trump in the process.
Quintenz, a former CFTC commissioner, was operated for the first job of the agency in the midst of the initial expectations according to which he spoke of the confirmation of the Senate with the support of the wider crypto and the financial industries.
But his appointment stall After the Gemini co-founders wrote to Trump to ask him to reconsider, the White House later interrupting a vote for unpertified reasons.
I have never been inclined to publish private messages. But in the light of my support for the president and the conviction that he could have been misleading, I published here the messages which include the questions that Tyler Winklevoss asked me about their prior dispute with the CFTC.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said that the Winklevoss twins “flexed their influence of Washington” after supporting Trump’s presidential campaign with millions of dollars of donations.
In the letter to Trump, the Winklevoss twins criticized the CFTC for participating in “7 years of hunting in the Lawfare trophy”.
Quintenz shared on X a private exchange which took place between him and Tyler Winklevoss a few days before sending the letter to Trump.
According to these messages, Tyler Winklevoss asked Quintenz how he planned to “align with President Trump and the administration’s mandate to end the law and make amends”.
Quintenz replied by saying that it was disappointed that the CFTC application division continued the trial against Gemini “so aggressively”, adding that it would undertake “a fair and reasonable examination of the issue” if he is appointed new president of the agency.
Quintenz said Tyler’s text messages “clearly indicate what they were looking for” him.
“I understand that after this exchange, they contacted the president and asked that my confirmation be interrupted for reasons other than what is reflected in these texts,” he wrote.
CFTC can have a more important role in monitoring crypto
The search for a new CFTC chair comes while legislators weigh by giving the new CFTC power on the cryptography market.
The regulator has already carried out several pro-Crypto measures in recent months, in particular by allowing offshore exchanges to serve American citizens as part of its Crypto Sprint initiative to quickly implement the recommendations of the president’s working group report on the digital asset markets.
In August, the agency also launched an initiative aimed at making the trade in cryptographic asset contracts Spot.
