Buterin’s message is clear – if Ethereum must remain the backbone of decentralized finance and the next generation of internet applications, it must return to its roots and adopt radical simplicity.
He warned that “Ethereum has lost sight of simplicity, trying to do too much while accumulating on a technical debt,” he warns. Buterin thus pleaded for a major reset. The EVM, the Ethereum execution engine, has become inflated and difficult to optimize. Buterin also called to merge redundant tools and adopt more effective cryptographic methods, such as unified erasure coding and Binary Merkle trees.
