Did the “Polymarket Greenland” bet become a scam during all this?

Amidst all this, Polymarket could have put a strain on its users. After US forces captured Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, the platform said the action did not meet the definition of an “invasion” laid out in its contract, leaving more than $10.5 million in bets unsettled and users furious as odds plummeted by as much as 5%.

One mystery trader seemed to anticipate Polymarket’s move, selling his $30,000 position into $400,000 and saying that technically “it wasn’t an invasion.”

That’s the problem, any time big market makers, oracles, DAOs or whatever get involved, the definition of anything can be distorted, terms can be provisional or redefined, all for the benefit of whoever is cooking it up behind the scenes.

Imagine a bet like this: “He was wearing a suit.”

What if it was a tuxedo…which technically isn’t a suit? All the hours you spent analyzing the news, geopolitics, and weighing possibilities… canceled.

The world is so messy right now that we would have no problem believing that America could botch many of these geopolitical situations. And because of all this, Polymarket is losing its confidence.
