38% Altcoins Near All-Time Lows – Assessing 48% Market Cap Erasure

With the broader crypto market hedged against a backdrop of reduced liquidity, altcoins have suffered significantly. Altcoins saw a sharp decline in demand and capital inflows dried up while the capitulation rate skyrocketed.

As the market continued to decline, most holders panicked and closed their positions, causing massive downward pressure on the market.

This is why these tokens fell massively, causing substantial losses on their price charts.

38% of altcoins trade near ATLs

Amid a prolonged market decline, the market capitalization of altcoins fell by more than 48%, from a peak of $1.9 trillion to $981 billion.

Such a massive drop reflects capital outflows and increased rotation into other assets as investors searched for better alternatives.

With capital leaving altcoins, most of these coins have declined significantly from their 2025 highs and ATH. According to Crypto Rover, over 38% of active altcoins are currently trading near their all-time lows.

Take Lighter (LIT), for example: the altcoin is trading 2.6% above its all-time low and 86% below its ATH, at the time of writing. The same fate applies to Ethena (ENA), which is trading 7% above its ATL and 93% below its ATH of $1.52.

Third, World Liberty Financial (WLFI) was trading just 6% above its ATL and 69% below its ATH at press time.

With these crypto coins suffering such massive losses, it’s safe to say that this is not an altcoin season, since the Altcoin Season Index stood at around 43% at press time.

Additionally, the CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index stood at around 38, suggesting that more altcoins underperformed against Bitcoin.

Why this decline?

There is no doubt that altcoins have continued to decline, with some investors withdrawing from the market, while others abandoning it altogether.

Altcoin trading volume has fallen from a peak of $241 billion in October 2025 to $99 billion at press time. This is a 58% drop in trading volume, a clear sign of a decline in demand and appetite for these assets.

AMBCrypto observed the same fate in the derivatives market, with the Open Interest (OI) of altcoins falling from $170 billion to $69.5 billion. A decline in OI suggests a reduction in risk appetite and an increase in risk aversion sentiment among all market participants.

Such market conditions indicated a dominant downtrend, with some rising while others closing.

Traditionally, massive bearish behavior precedes poor market performance.

Therefore, if the prevailing sentiment persists, these tokens will likely continue to decline, with some even risking falling below their ATH.

To wake up, the market as a whole requires a significant change in sentiment, creating a path for demand-side liquidity.

Final summary

  • Altcoins are facing broad market pressure as liquidity dries up and investors shift their capital to safer assets like Bitcoin.
  • Nearly 38% of altcoins are now trading near their all-time lows.
