Polymarket, a decentralized prediction market platform, has implemented trading fees on its short-term cryptocurrency price markets, according to company announcements.

Summary

  • The decentralized prediction market has introduced fees to short-lived crypto price markets and its Polymarket US app, marking a move away from its long-standing no-fee model.
  • Under the new pricing, Polymarket US app users will pay 1 basis point (0.01%), with fees also applied to 15-minute cryptocurrency markets.
  • The move marks Polymarket’s first direct revenue stream as it expands into more traditional commerce markets through its US app, which is currently in private beta.

The platform, which describes itself as the world’s largest decentralized prediction marketplace, operated without fees until the recent changes. The company introduced a new trading fee schedule for its Polymarket US app, currently in private beta, and implemented a fee structure for its 15-minute crypto markets.

The Polymarket US app will charge takers 1 basis point, or the equivalent of 0.01%, according to the company. These fees represent Polymarket’s primary source of revenue since its expansion into consumer markets.

The platform previously operated on a no-fee model for all of its prediction market offerings.
