Morpho, a decentralized DeFi lending protocol, is making headlines for the right reasons.
According to a recent update, borrowers on Morpho have paid a total of “$170 million in interest over the past year,” as Token Terminal reports. While it may raise eyebrows at first glance, the hidden layers tell a completely different story.
With a “participation rate” of around 10%, the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) would generate around $17 million in annual revenue. This would take place against a valuation of $1.7 billion. Calculated together, this means that Morpho is valued at 100 times its annual turnover.

Simply put, relative to its current earnings, investors are valuing Morpho at a much higher price. So even if the Morpho user paid a whopping $170 million in interest, only $17 million would go to the DAO.
However, it is important to note that all of this is happening in anticipation of revenues that will skyrocket exponentially.
Morpho vs Aave investment strategies
This, compared to Aave (AAVE), which recently made headlines for crossing $10 million in deposits, is shocking.
According to Token Terminal data, Aave generated $140 million in annual revenue against a valuation of $1.5 billion. This means that compared to Morpho (MORPHO), Aave is valued at much less than 10-11 times its annual revenue.
So, in a nutshell, Morpho focuses on yield and attracting users with lower fees. While Aave has a higher fee capture model and is already optimized for revenue, unlike Morohpo, in which monetization happens later.
However, if Morpho plans to increase its monetization in the short term, then it would lose the competitive advantage it currently has over Aave.
Additionally, Aave has been in the game for a long time and has also tested the major FTX crash in 2022, while Morpho is relatively new with a riskier protocol.
In fact, if Morpho’s valuation fails to grow, the interest currently paid could appear too high. But if things work out in their favor, then revenue could jump from $17 million to $100 million, making the current value seem like peanuts in hindsight.
Price action and on-chain metrics reinforce optimism but…
Yet despite this strategic investment that prepares borrowers for future revenue growth, Morpho’s pricing was concerning. Over the past 24 hours, the altcoin fell 1.66% to $1.73.
Weekly charts, however, show a massive jump of over 19%, signaling that this decline may just be short-term noise reflecting frontier market sentiment.
In fact, as of late last week, MORPHO saw a 10% surge on April 10, with the token’s trading volume increasing 2x to around $58 million.
However, Aave, on the other hand, was changing hands at $89.91 after a decline of 2.29% in the last 24 hours and over 3% in the past week.
This was happening behind the total number of MORPHO holders, with an increase, indicating that there was a steady accumulation.
At the same time, the RSI was also strong, indicating bullish sentiment as well as spikes in volume on social media, suggesting that these were not simply hype-driven rallies. Overall, these metrics suggest the market is preparing to price in future growth.

Final summary
- Both Morpho and Aave follow different strategies to remain fit for their business model.
- MORPHO’s price action appears worrying, but the metrics depict an optimistic future for the altcoin.
