We are delighted to share the results of the first wave of subsidies from the Ethereum Foundation.
As a reminder, the Ethereum project seeks to support DAPPs and useful intelligent contracts on Ethereum blockchain, and the objective of the Ethereum Foundation is to empower developers with the best R&D in class, the experience of developers and the education. Despite the early promise of the ecosystem, we still have a long way to go and we are here to work with the community to generate concrete progress.
These subsidies will feed the teams working hard in research and development to support the entire ecosystem. In addition, we hope that these subsidies will point out to the community what we think is the missing parts of the ecosystem that need more support. Said in another way, the foundation is there to serve teams and individuals who work to prevent a tragedy from the municipalities.
This year, we will double to work with the community to make Ethereum evolving, useful and secure. As such, although this subsidy program was announced two months ago as a Program strictly focused on scalabilityWe decided to expand support for projects that do an excellent job through Scalability, utility and security. These projects do not have ICOs, no token sales and simply focus on creating useful products and experiences.
Scalability Maybe in the form of the implementation of rupture, plasma or state channels with existing teams or yourself. It can also be in the form of optimization of Geth / Parity or to build alternative customers. Utility is to improve the experience of the developer (for example, static analyzers, liners, development frameworks, mobile SDK, documentation, solidity / vyper development) or experiment with new DAPPs which provide utility to the end user. Security Can range from the audit of existing contracts to the supply of tools which prevent programming models subject to errors to the contribution to alternative second layer languages which focus on safety.
We also start to engage with the design community To help solve product design problems and UX. For example, key management, Ethereum UX payments and integration flows are all areas that require a major improvement for consumer adoption. We would like to finance more design studies, hire and connect talented designers with exciting teams in space.
Finally, we would like to remember how the Ethereum project started: passionate open source developers contributing to the project on their free time. In this spirit, we have started a “hackterns” subsidy for the members of the community who offer a project by hard -hitting etherum.
List of premiums
Here are the Gainters inaugural of the Ethereum Foundation subsidy:
L4 Research – Grant of scalability – 1.5 million dollars. The state channels research.
Checking the execution time – Safety grant – $ 500,000. Official verification of the Casper contract.
Ethglobal – Devex Grant * – $ 200,000. World class developer conferences for Ethereum
Prysmatic laboratories – Grant of scalability – $ 100,000. Rupture implementation.
Dda – #BUIDL Grant ** – $ 100,000. Decentralized decentralized network without chips + r & D state channels
Barcelona SuperComputing Center – Grant of scalability – $ 50,000. Rupture simulation.
Plasma Taiwan Dev – Grant of scalability – $ 25,000. Implementation of plasma.
Ethers.js – Devex Grant – $ 25,000. Web3.js alternative.
Turbo Geth – Grant of scalability – $ 25,000. Optimization of Geth.
Solium – Devex Grant – $ 10K. Solidity static analyzer.
Alex Komarov – Design design – $ 10,000. UX Key Management Study
(Anonymous) – HackternShip – $ 10K. Weba researcher deterministic.
Ankit Raj – HackternShip – $ 10K. Technical writing for Geth and Solidity.
* Devex Grant – improves the experience of developers (“useful” for developers).
** #Buidl Grant – Builds for User (“useful” for users).
What we provide to teams that earn a grant
- Non -dilutive financing
- Technical opinion
- Connection to more users
- Platform to share your work
We hope to provide Ethereum teams with more tracks, advice and resources to simply focus on the creation of useful products and experiences.
In addition, many of these subsidies can be followed with additional funding and / or collaboration when milers are reached. We believe that this will provide close feedback loops for the impact on the ecosystem.
List of wishes for future subsidies
In future grant cycles, we would like to see more applications in these areas:
- Scalability
- Alternative rupture implementations
- Alternative plasma implementations
- Improvement of the efficiency of existing customers such as Geth & Parity
- A “lightning network” without token for Ethereum
- Utility
- UX design studies to improve the management of private keys and the transaction in Ethereum
- Alternative portfolio / customer conceptions
- Tools that improve the developer’s experience
- Improved documentation and videos of the education of developers / users
- Security
- Safety audits for Solidey and Vyper
- Smart contract audits
- Tools that prevent vulnerable code
- “HackternShips”
- Do you have a job (or a school)? No problem! Suggest a problem you want to solve and we are happy to finance an $ 10,000 externat of $ 10,000 for your spare time working on Ethereum. Successful projects will be presented during a developer conference. We are also trying to hire and finance from this basin of parallel projects.
Following steps
This is a program of subsidies in progress, and we would like to invite the rest of the community to approach with your ideas (application link).
Ethereum is built by the community of the community, and we are here to support you. Thank you for the construction!
Best,
Ethereum Foundation team
