Ethereum is the most secure blockchain ecosystem. This is the result of 10 years of progress and iteration at all levels of the Ethereum technological battery, from Wallet UX to the tooling of developers to the safety of the consensual protocol.
But being the most secure platform of the cryptographic ecosystem is not enough. Ethereum’s ambition is much greater: being an infrastructure on the scale of civilization which underlies internet safely and the global economy, exceeding the security and reliability of systems inherited from the world.
Today we are announcing the Dollars Billion Security Initiative, an effort on the scale of the ecosystem to upgrade Ethereum’s safety to help bring the whole world.
Achieving “security of billions of dollars” means a world where:
- Billions of people are comfortable to store more than $ 1,000 in ONCHAIN, raising collectively to billions of dollars guaranteed in Ethereum.
- Companies, institutions or governments are comfortable storing more than 1 Billion of dollars of value in a single contract or application.
What will the 1TS project do?
This initiative has three components:
(1) Cartography The landscape of security forces and attack vectors through each domain and layer of the Ethereum technological battery. We will collect comments from the whole ecosystem and synthesize this in a security overview report that will help us identify the fields of intervention.
This cartography will cover a wide range of fields, in particular: UX (blind signature, frontal security), portfolio security (firmware problems, supply chain attacks), intelligent contract security (developer tools, standard libraries), infrastructure (cloud security, dependence management), consensus and safety safety (Risk, Pit Internet infra (DNS in terms of censorship) and more.
(2) Execute On improvements in the intervention areas identified when overview of the cartography. We will work in close collaboration with the ecosystem to implement short -term fixes and allocate investments to longer -term improvement projects.
(3) Communicate More effectively on Ethereum’s safety. Users of all kinds should be able to understand, use and benefit from the Strong Security Foundation of Ethereum. Everyone should be able to assess Ethereum safety standards and compare them to other inherited blockchains and systems.
Who will contribute to this project?
At the Ethereum Foundation, the project will be motivated by Fredrik Svantes (security protocol) and Josh Stark (EF Management Team) as initial project presidents.
They will be supported by three ecosystem commissioners who will help guide the project and provide comments and advice.
