Ethereum stands on the verge of major breakthroughs. The ZKEVMS have quickly accelerated, which allows us to reconstruct L1 to support the scale, verifiability, security and resistance to censorship simultaneously. The L2 harden, meeting users where they are and eager to double the use of Ethereum as a confidence root. In short, the world is ready for the global computer.
These important innovations unlock both massive advantages for our users and will allow us to integrate many, many others. The challenges are high: this moment can be the best shot from Ethereum to the deployment not only of our technology, but of our values, on a planetary scale.
In response, we must rethink our current approach to design, develop and manage the protocol. This process of “shipping protocol” is disorderly, asking us to respond proactively to requests that are difficult to articulate and even more difficult to respond. It is our responsibility to use our skills for the benefit of the wider community.
The execution on this mandate will require a new level of concentration and collaboration for our group, the research teams and development of the protocol within the EF. This means to double the fields where the EF has unique knowledge of the field and an unequaled in -depth expertise in our ecosystem: writing critical mission code, to publish revolutionary research and to coordinate major initiatives.
To support this vision, we make changes to the way we operate, redirect to our Three strategic objectives: on a L1 scale, on the scale of blobs and to improve UX. In practice, this means restructuring our teams and creating explicit coordination structures around these strategic objectives.
It also means that some Pr&D members will not continue with the Ethereum Foundation. We hope that these people will continue in the Ethereum ecosystem and encourage others who build their teams to seek them.
The changes that we are announcing today are a gap compared to our previous working methods, but we think that this has put us on a more reactive and effective path. To mark the beginning of this new chapter and this new structure, we would like to reintroduce the “R&D of the protocol” to the world under a new name: Protocol.
Strategic initiatives
In the past year, many of us have concluded that we had to do a better work in articulation of our priorities. In conversation with our community, our collective spirit has produced three ambitious objectives to achieve in a short time: L1 scale, blobs on scale, improve UX. Doing it successfully is the most precious work that we could do on behalf of our community, and it is our responsibility to deliver it.
It is time for us to make sure that these objectives directly stimulate our attention and allocation of resources. Each of these objectives is now mapped to a strategic initiative For the protocol, a shared workspace to collect our complementary talents. We encourage each team in protocol to examine how their work supports our execution of these strategic initiatives.
The presence of leaders of our group is essential to our execution. We are more explicit in the allocation of managers to accelerate our strategic initiatives in order to increase responsibility.
More specifically, the following people are responsible for ensuring that the EF runs on each of its strategic objectives:
- L1 scale: Tim Beiko and Ansgar Dietrichs
- L2 scale: Alex Stokes and Francesco of Amato
- Improve UX: Barnabé Monnot and Josh Rudolf
They will be supported by Dankrad Feist, who will act as a strategic advisor for all tracks, as well as the tracks of the projects defined to advance these objectives.
You can find more details on our three strategic initiatives here.
Teams
More than ever, we are required to solve problems bringing the capacities of all members of the protocol at the same time. The rapid transition of research into prototypes and production means that we need more strict collaboration and feedback loops. We have seen a lot more bridges form through OUR teams In recent years, providing tangible results. With a shared vision, we must make sure that our common house is incredible to work.
Being open in our collaboration with each member of the protocol requires shared expectations and great confidence that each of us offers at the highest level. The team leaders will be responsible for ensuring that their members meet our bar for technical excellence and benefit from continuous growth, growing further and further.
The protocol is now a more united and leaner organization with more targeted teams. You can find our updated work organization here.
The protocol cannot accomplish everything alone. Our ecosystem is reinforced with the work of many other basic research and development teams, which amplify our own efforts and bring functionalities to reality. Our role is not to replace these teams, but to set a high level in our work with them.
The protocol stimulates efforts to reconfigure our main governance forums And Presentation of new. It is essential to continue to obtain the right signals and translate them into action.
We are looking for new members to join us in this effort and be part of the largest Ethereum basic development community. Two roles which, in our view, are essential to help us solve real problems for Ethereum users Plain ux And Praging in performance engineering. In addition to these, we welcome exceptional candidates who are delighted with our mission to let us know in our General request.
So let’s do it together. Let’s grab the protocol.
